Speaker Of The Saeima
The Speaker of the Saeima ( lv, Saeimas priekšsēdētājs; literal translation, lit. "Chairperson of the Saeima") is the speaker (politics), presiding officer of the Parliament of Latvia, the Saeima. If the President of Latvia resigns from office, dies or is removed from office before their term has ended, the Speaker of the Saeima shall assume the duties of the President until the Saeima has elected a new President. Similarly, the Speaker of the Saeima shall assume the duties of the President if the latter is away from Latvia or for any other reason unable to fulfil the duties of office. The Speaker of the Saeima must be elected at the first meeting of the current convocation of the Saeima. Alfrēds Čepānis (born 3 August 1943, in Kalsnava Parish) is a Latvian politician and the former Speaker of the Saeima from 1996 to 1998. Biography Čepānis was born in a Lithuanian and Belarusian family, where they spoke only Latvian in their household. In 1957, he graduated from Kalsnava Primary School and continued his studies at Jaungulbene Vocational School and Riga. After graduating from primary school, Čepānis worked in agriculture where was an assistant tractor driver, tractor driver and combine harvester. From 1968 to 1974, he worked for the Komsomol and in 1973 graduated in part from the Higher Party School in Moscow. In 1990, Čepānis was elected as the deputy of the Supreme Council in. Ilga Kreituse (née Grava, born July 5, 1952, in Tērvete) is a Latvian politician, historian, and former Speaker of the Saeima. Biography Kreituse was born in Tērvete and lived with her family, later moving to Jūrmala. In 1970, she graduated from Jūrmala Secondary School No. 3. From 1972 until 1977, Kreituse studied at the Faculty of History and Philosophy at the University of Latvia. From 1977 to 1980, she was involved with postgraduate studies at Moscow State University. In 1982, she left the university, defending her dissertation on "the use of mathematical methods in historical science." The United List ( lv, Apvienotais saraksts; AS) is a centrist and regionalist political alliance in Latvia established to contest the 2022 parliamentary election. The list consists of the Latvian Green Party, the Latvian Association of Regions, the Liepāja Party, as well as the "United List of Latvia" () association led by Liepāja construction contractor Uldis Pīlēns. For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK ( lv, Tēvzemei un Brīvībai/LNNK, abbreviated to TB/LNNK) was a free-market, national conservative political party in Latvia. In 2011, it dissolved and merged into the National Alliance. The party was founded from smaller groups in 1993 as For Fatherland and Freedom (TB), with a focus on promoting the Latvian language and putting a cap on naturalisation of Latvian Non-citizens. It won six Saeima seats in its first year, and 14 in 1995, when it entered the governing centre-right coalition.
