Martin Welles (December 7, 1787 – January 19, 1863) was an American politician. Welles, son of Gen. Roger Welles, an officer in the Continental Army, and Jemima (Kellogg) Welles, was born in Wethersfield, Connecticut, December 7, 1787, where he resided during most of his life. He graduated from Yale College in 1806. Having studied Law with Samuel Cowles, Esq., of Farmington, Connecticut, he opened an office in that place. Subsequently he was admitted to the bar in the State of New York, and began to practice his profession first at Newburgh, New York, and afterwards in New York City. His health failing he returned to his native place, and refrained for a time from professional activity. Biography Born in New Milford, Connecticut, William Whiting Boardman was the son of Senator Elijah Boardman and Mary Ann Whiting Boardman; and nephew of David Sherman Boardman. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , of which, is land and (1.96%) is water. History Hampton is made up of lands originally shared by the towns of Pomfret and Windham. It was incorporated from the towns of Pomfret, Brooklyn, Canterbury, Mansfield, and Windham in 1786. The Congregational Church is the second oldest church in the state still in use, with portions of the structure dating from 1754. Norwich ( ) (also called "The Rose of New England") is a city in New London County, Connecticut, United States. The Yantic, Shetucket, and Quinebaug Rivers flow into the city and form its harbor, from which the Thames River flows south to Long Island Sound. History The town of Norwich was founded on the site of what is now Norwichtown in 1659 by settlers from Saybrook Colony led by Major John Mason and James Fitch.
