Alexandra ("Alexi") Spann (born October 21, 1986) is a female breaststroke swimmer from the United States, who won the gold medal in the women's 200m breaststroke event at the 2003 Pan American Games. Antwain Joquan Spann (born February 22, 1983) is a former American football safety. He was signed by the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2005. He played college football at Louisiana–Lafayette. Spann has also been a member of the New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills and Denver Broncos. Early years Spann played football at El Camino High School in Oceanside, California. College career Spann began his college football career in 2001 at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, where he was a Mississippi Junior College All-State and All-Region player. Gloria Carter Spann ('' née'' Carter; October 22, 1926 – March 5, 1990) was a motorcyclist and activist. Spann was a sister of former President Jimmy Carter. She was noted as one of the first women inducted into Harley-Davidson’s 100,000 Mile Club, was named Most Outstanding Female Motorcyclist in 1978 and worked as an activist for motorcycle rights. Early years Gloria Carter was the second of four children, and the first daughter born to James Earl Carter, Sr. (1894–1953) and Lillian Gordy Carter (1898–1983) and was 24 months younger than her brother, Jimmy. Johnny Micheal "Mike" Spann (March 1, 1969 – November 25, 2001) was an American paramilitary officer in the Central Intelligence Agency's Special Activities Division. Spann was the first American killed in action, killed in combat during the United States invasion of Afghanistan in 2001. Othmar Spann (1 October 1878 – 8 July 1950) was a conservative Austrian philosopher, sociologist and economist whose radical anti-liberal and anti-socialist views, based on early 19th century Romantic ideas expressed by Adam Müller et al. and popularized in his books and lecture courses, helped antagonise political factions in Austria during the interwar years. Otis Spann (March 21, 1924 or 1930April 24, 1970) was an American blues musician, whom many consider to be the leading postwar Chicago blues pianist. Early life Sources differ over Spann's early years. Pervis Spann (August 16, 1932 – March 14, 2022) was an American broadcaster, music promoter, and radio personality. He was a disc jockey on WVON and was influential in the development of blues music in Chicago, Illinois. Early life Spann was born in Itta Bena, Mississippi, on August 16, 1932. During his teenage years, he cared for his family by picking cotton and managing the Dixie Theater – the only local black movie theater – after his mother could no longer do that because she suffered a stroke. Scott Spann Jr. (born May 11, 1988) is an American competition swimmer and Pan American Games medalist. Career At the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials, Spann won the 200m breaststroke in 2:09.97, earning a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team roster. Spann also placed third in the 100m breaststroke at trials in 1:00.59. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, Spann placed sixth overall in the 200m breaststroke in 2:09.76. In September 2008, following the Olympics, Spann had surgery to remove a piece of bone that had broken off of his patella and embedded in his tendon. Silvio Spann (born 21 August 1981) is a Trinidad and Tobagonian footballer who played professionally in countries including Italy, Japan, Croatia and England. Spann is a midfielder. He is the son of Leroy Spann, former Trinidad and Tobago national team player who currently coaches a youth football team, the Middlesex Phantoms, in the MAPLE league in Massachusetts.
