Spain At The Paralympics
Athletes from Spain have competed at the Paralympic Games since the 1968 Summer events and the country hosted the 1992 Summer Paralympics. Competitors have represented Spain in ten of the twelve Summer Paralympics, missing only the first two events in Rome and Tokyo. Spain's breakthrough year came in 1992 when they hosted the event; their medal tally rocketed with a level of performance that would be maintained for the following two events. Spanish Paralympic Committee
Spanish Paralympic Committee ( es, Comité Paralímpico Español, CPE) is a Spanish non-profit sport organisation founded in 1995, that oversees five national disability sport federations. The organisation has a Secretary General and a President. Since 2005, they have been supported by Plan ADO. In 2000, the CPE was involved in a cheating scandal at the 2000 Summer Paralympics. History The CPE was created in 1995 in response to the success of Spanish competitors at the 1992 Summer Paralympics. ONCE, Organización Nacional de Ciegos Españoles (ONCE) assisted in setting up the CPE. In 1998, the Spanish government changed the laws, which impacted the status of the CPE to recognise it as equal to that of the Spanish Olympic Committee. Sarai Gascón Moreno (born 16 November 1992 in Terrassa, Province of Barcelona) is a Spanish paralympic swimmer. Personal life Gascón was born 16 November 1992 in Terrassa, Province of Barcelona. She has a disability in that she was born without part of her left forearm. In 2013, she was awarded the silver Royal Award for Merit in Sports (Real Orden al Mérito Deportivo). Juan Viedma is a paralympic athlete from Spain competing mainly in category F11 long and triple jump events. Juan has competed in four paralympics starting with his home games in Spain in 1992. He competed in the pentathlon and 100m before winning a silver in the long jump and gold in the triple jump.
