''The Sky Beckons'' or ''The Heavens Beckon'') is a Soviet science-fiction feature film, produced by Aleksandr Kozyr and Mikhail Karyukov, and filmed at the Dovzhenko Film Studios in 1959. It premiered September 12, 1959. Synopsis A Soviet scientific expedition is being prepared as the world's first mission to planet Mars. Their space ship ''Homeland'' has been built at a space station, where the expedition awaits the command to start. An American ship ''Typhoon'' experiencing mechanical problems arrives at the same space station, secretly having the same plans for the conquest of the Red Planet. ''Girl Seeks Father'' (russian: Девочка ищет отца, Devochka ishchet otsa) is a 1959 Soviet children's drama film that was produced by Yuri Bulychyov at the Belarusfilm, directed by Lev Golub, and which stars Anna Kamenkova, Vladimir Guskov, Nikolai Barmin. Writers: Konstantin Gubarevich, Yevgeny Ryss. In 1959, it was the fifth film in Soviet Union in terms of the box office. It was watched by over 35 million spectators, which makes it the third watched Belarusian film ever. Plot The film was set in Russia during World War II and is about a 5-year-old girl searching for her partisan leader father while escaping from the Nazis, who try to catch her to make her their hostage, and a young boy trying to save her. Sergei Vladimirovich Lukyanov (russian: Сергей Владимирович Лукья́нов; 27 September 1910 — 1 March 1965) was a Soviet film and theater actor. He was a People's Artist of the RSFSR (1952) and the winner of two Stalin Prize of the second degree (1951, 1952). Biography Sergei Lukyanov was born on 14 (27) September 1910 in the village of Nizhnee (now Donetsk Oblast), in a miner's family. He went to school, then graduated from the Mining College and began working at the mine. He engaged in the circle of theatrical performances. Mark Semyonovich Donskoy (russian: Марк Семёнович Донско́й; – 21 March 1981) was a Soviet film director, screenwriter, and studio administrative head. Biography Mark Donskoy was born in Odessa in a Jewish family. During the Civil War, he served in the Red Army (1921-1923), and was held captive by the White Russians for ten months. Freed and discharged from military service, he studied psychology and psychiatry at the Crimean Medical School. In 1925 he graduated from the legal department of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Crimean M.V. Frunze University in Simferopol. He then worked in investigative bodies, in the Supreme Court of the Ukrainian SSR, and in the bar association. He released a collection of short stories about his life called “Prisoners” (1925). ''Fate of a Man'' (russian: Судьба человека, translit. Sudba Cheloveka), also released as ''A Man's Destiny'' and ''Destiny of a Man'' is a 1959 Soviet film adaptation of the short story by Mikhail Sholokhov, and also the directorial debut of Sergei Bondarchuk. In the year of its release it won the Grand Prize at the 1st Moscow International Film Festival. Plot With the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, driver Andrei Sokolov has to part with his family. In May 1942 he is taken prisoner by the Germans.
