Southwell City Football Club is a football club based in Southwell, England. They are currently members of the and play at the Centenary Ground, Brinkley. History Southwell City were formed in 1893. In the club's early years, they entered the Newark and District League, winning the Challenge Cup in 1911. In 1957, the club joined the Notts Alliance, winning the competition in 2001. In 2003, Southwell joined the Central Midlands League, before leaving in 2017. In 2022, after winning the Nottinghamshire Senior League, the club was admitted into the United Counties League Division One. Ground During the early 20th century, the club played at Crafts Fields in Southwell. Southwell, Nottinghamshire
Southwell (, ) is a minster and market town in the district of Newark and Sherwood in Nottinghamshire, England. It is home to the grade-I listed Southwell Minster, the cathedral of the Anglican Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham. The population of the town was recorded at 7,558 in the 2021 Census. The town is on the River Greet and is located geographically west of Newark on Trent, north-east of Nottingham, south-east of Mansfield and south-east of Worksop. Toponymy The origin of the name is unclear. Several sites claim to be the original "well", notably at GR where a plaque has been placed; in the ''Admiral Rodney'' pub; on the south side of the Minster, known as Lady Well in the 19th century; and one by the cloisters called Holy Well. The Nottinghamshire Senior League is an English football league. The competition is a feeder to the Northern Counties East League and the United Counties League. The league has five divisions – the Premier Division (which stands at level 11 of the English football league system), NSL Division One, NSL Division Two, NSL Division Three and the NSL Development Division. United Counties League
The United Counties League (also known after its sponsor as the ''Uhlsport United Counties League'') is an English football league covering Northamptonshire, Rutland and Bedfordshire and most of Leicestershire as well as parts of Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Nottinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire and the West Midlands. It has a total of five divisions, three for first teams and two for reserve teams, but the reserves' divisions were merged into a single division for the 2013–14 season and remains so at present.
