Southland Boys' High School
Southland Boys' High School (SBHS) is an all-boys school in Invercargill, New Zealand, and has been the only one in the city since Marist Brothers was merged with St Catherines to form Verdon College in 1982. History SBHS was founded in 1881 and, in 1926, the original brick building was opened on the present Herbert St site. This building is called the Pearce Block in memory of Mr T. Pearce who was rector from around 1904 to 1929. Subsequent buildings were named after George Uttley, Malcolm Leadbetter, Don Grant and Laurie Cornwell. The gymnasium was named after Jim Page. The west end of the Pearce Block suffered a fire during Easter 1980 which was well recorded in the 1980 year book "The Southlandian". The fire extensively damaged three class rooms on the upper floor whilst the Rector's, DP's and Senior Master's offices on the ground floor were water damaged (in the right hand side of the photo). Invercargill
Invercargill ( , mi, Waihōpai is the southernmost and westernmost city in New Zealand, and one of the southernmost cities in the world. It is the commercial centre of the Southland region. The city lies in the heart of the wide expanse of the Southland Plains to the east of the Ōreti or New River some north of Bluff, which is the southernmost town in the South Island. Otago Rugby Football Union
The Otago Rugby Football Union is the official governing body of rugby union for the Otago region of New Zealand. The union is based in the city of Dunedin, and its home ground is Forsyth Barr Stadium. The top representative team competes in the ITM Cup, New Zealand's top provincial competition. The union was to have been liquidated in March 2012. However a deal involving the Dunedin City Council allowed it to keep operating. Otago have won the Ranfurly Shield on seven occasions (1935, 1938, 1947, 1957, 2013, 2018 and 2020). They were the National provincial championship winners in 1991 and 1998. Jack Alabaster
John Chaloner Alabaster (born 11 July 1930) is a former cricketer who played 21 Test cricket, Test matches for New Zealand cricket team, New Zealand between 1955 and 1972. A leg-spin bowler, he was the only New Zealander to play in each of the country's first four Test victories. In domestic cricket was often partnered at the crease for his provincial side Otago cricket team, Otago by his younger brother Gren Alabaster, Gren, who bowled off-spin. Dave Cull
David Charles Cull (1 April 1950 – 27 April 2021) was the mayor of the city of Dunedin in New Zealand. He became the 57th Mayor of Dunedin in October 2010 and was re-elected in both the 2013 mayoralty race and 2016 mayoral election. Before politics, he was a presenter for Television New Zealand and an author. ''The Southland Times'' is the regional daily paper for Southland, including Invercargill, and neighbouring parts of Otago, in New Zealand. It is now owned by media business Stuff Ltd, formerly the New Zealand division of Fairfax Media. History ''The Southland Times'' was first established in 1862. Shaun Yeo
Shaun Yeo (born 1974) is a New Zealand freelance cartoonist and illustrator living in Invercargill. He produces daily political cartoons for the Otago Daily Times. For 28 years from 1991 through to 2019 his cartoons were published in ''The Southland Times'' newspaper. As well as his work for ''The Southland Times'', Yeo also supplied cartoons, illustrations and caricatures to many of the newspapers and magazines owned by Stuff Limited, working full-time for the company from 2001 through to 2018. From 2013 through to 2018 Yeo was the political cartoonist for the Sunday News. In May 2018 Yeo began a career as a freelance cartoonist and illustrator, with a focus on children's book illustrations; in 2006 he had written and illustrated his own book, ''The King, the Crown and the Dragon.'' ''Home and Away'' (often abbreviated as ''H&A'') is an Australian television soap opera. It was created by Alan Bateman and commenced broadcast on the Seven Network on 17 January 1988. Bateman came up with the concept of the show during a trip to Kangaroo Point, New South Wales, where he noticed locals were complaining about the construction of a foster home and against the idea of foster children from the city living in the area. George Mason is a New Zealand film and television actor. He secured his first role in the feature film ''50 Ways of Saying Fabulous'' when he was thirteen years old. The Blues (known as the Auckland Blues from 1996 to 2000) is a New Zealand professional rugby union team based in Auckland, who play in the Super Rugby competition.
