Southern Ontario Tornado Outbreak Of 2009
The Southern Ontario Tornado Outbreak of 2009 was a series of severe thunderstorms that spawned numerous tornadoes in Southwestern Ontario, Central Ontario and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) on August 20, 2009, and was the largest single-day tornado outbreak in Ontario history and the largest in Canadian history. During the afternoon and evening, 19 tornadoes touched down with four of them producing F2 damage. One F2 struck the town of Durham where significant damage occurred and one person was killed; two F2s struck the city of Vaughan, just north of Toronto, damaging hundreds of homes; another F2 devastated apple orchards and resort areas near Thornbury. The number of tornadoes associated with this event surpasses that of August 2, 2006, which saw 18 documented tornadoes. Georgian Bay
Georgian Bay (french: Baie Georgienne) is a large bay of Lake Huron, in the Laurentia bioregion. It is located entirely within the borders of Ontario, Canada. The main body of the bay lies east of the Bruce Peninsula and Manitoulin Island. To its northwest is the North Channel. Georgian Bay is surrounded by (listed clockwise) the districts of Manitoulin, Sudbury, Parry Sound and Muskoka, as well as the more populous counties of Simcoe, Grey and Bruce. The Main Channel separates the Bruce Peninsula from Manitoulin Island and connects Georgian Bay to the rest of Lake Huron. Redstone Lake (Haliburton County)
Redstone Lake is a lake located in geographic Guilford Township in the Municipality of Dysart et al, Haliburton County in Central Ontario, Canada. It is in the Great Lakes Basin and is part of the Gull River system. At its longest, it is approximately 6.5km (4 miles). Hydrology The primary inflow is the Redstone River at arriving via two channels at the northwest from Pelaw Lake and from Little Redstone Lake. A secondary inflow is Harburn Creek at the northeast. There are two primary outflows that are both controlled by dams and that both lead to the Gull River. The East Redstone River at the southeast leads to Eagle Lake further downstream, and the Redstone River at the southwest leads to Green Lake further downstream. North Bay, Ontario
North Bay is a city in Northeastern Ontario, Canada. It is the seat of Nipissing District, and takes its name from its position on the shore of Lake Nipissing. North Bay developed as a railroad centre, and its airport was an important military location during the Cold War. History The site of North Bay is part of a historic canoe route where Samuel de Champlain took a party up the Ottawa River, through present-day Mattawa, on to Trout Lake and via the La Vase Creek to Lake Nipissing. Britt, Ontario
Britt is a community in the Canadian province of Ontario, located in the unincorporated township of Wallbridge in the Parry Sound District. The community is located on the north shore of the Magnetawan River at Byng Inlet, approximately five kilometres west of Highway 69, at the end of Highway 526. Like its neighbouring community of Byng Inlet on the south shore, Britt was originally a sawmill village, known as Byng Inlet North when the Burton Mill located there in 1880. As the lumber industry in this area had reached its peak, prior to the building of the CPR between 1903 and 1908, the community on the north shore was established as a port for receiving coal, required for the railway's steam locomotives. Edenvale, Ontario
Edenvale is an unincorporated place in Springwater Township, Simcoe County, Ontario, Canada. It is located on Ontario Highway 26. The Nottawasaga River flows through Edenvale. Little remains today of the once a thriving pioneer settlement. Early history The village was named by pioneer settler John Culham, who described the surrounding countryside as the ''Garden of Eden''. Other names from the early days of Edenvale include Giffen, McNabb, Walker, Campbell, Thompson, Richardson and Robertson. Although Edenvale was not settled until 1867, a contingent of soldiers led by LCol McDougall spent a winter encamped at what was then called Glengarry Landing during the War of 1812.
