The Southern Football League (SFL) is an Australian rules football league in South Australia. Australian Rules Football
Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. There are rules on how the ball can be handled; for example, players running with the ball must intermittently bounce or touch it on the ground. Noarlunga Football Club
The Noarlunga Football Club is an Australian rules football club that plays in the Southern Football League. History There are some records of a Noarlunga Football Club being first formed in the 1890s. The first record of Noarlunga participating in an organised competition was with the establishment of the Alexandra Football Association in 1913, with Noarlunga finishing runners-up to Clarendon that season. The following season Noarlunga went one better, winning the Alexandra FA Premiership. Morphett Vale Football Club
The Morphett Vale Football Club is an Australian rules football club first formed in 1895. From 1896 to 1898 there are some records of Morphett Vale playing regular games against teams from the southern metropolitan area of Adelaide, but it is not known if this was part of a formal competition. History In 1899, Morphett Vale joined the Southern Football Association and remained as a participant in this competition until the end of the 1913 season. In 1914, Morphett Vale transferred to the Alexandra Football Association for one season, before returning to the Southern Football Association the following year. This return only lasted for one season as Morphett Vale went into recess due to the First World War. Happy Valley Football Club
The Happy Valley Football Club is an Australian rules football club that competes in the Southern Football League. History The club first formed in 1952 playing in the former Hills Central Football League. In 1964, Happy Valley transferred to the Glenelg-South-West District Football Association and adopted the colours Black and Gold to avoid a clash with the Glandore club (having previously worn Blue and Gold). In 1980, Happy Valley joined the Southern Football League Division 2 competition and in 1984 were promoted to Division 1. Since joining Division 1, Happy Valley have been a very successful club, winning 8 A-Grade Premierships. The Happy Valley FC continues to field teams in Senior and Junior grades in the Southern Football League and Senior women's teams in the Adelaide Football League. Hackham Football Club
The Hackham Football Club is an Australian rules football club first formed in 1976. In 1977, Hackham initially started in the Southern Football League Division 3 competition playing against C-Grade teams of some of the stronger clubs before becoming an inaugural member of the restructured Division 2 competition in 1978. Promotion to Division 1 was achieved in 1984, but its first attempt at the top division did not last long, dropping back down to the second division at the end of the 1986 season. Hackham once again were promoted to Division 1 in 1992 and remained within that division until 2016, dropping to the C-Grade competition from 2017 (their senior team was also dropped to this grade for a single year in 2004). In an effort to reimage following the failure to field an A-Grade and B-Grade team, the club rebranded itself the Southern Hawks Football Club in 2005; this was short-lived however, reverting to the traditional Hackham name in the 2007 season. The Flagstaff Hill Football Club (also known as the Flagstaff Hill Falcons) is an Australian rules football club originally formed as Brighton Methodist Football Club based at Mitchell Park in 1963 in the former United Churches Football League. In 1975, Brighton Methodist FC shifted to Mawson High School Oval and in 1977 was renamed the Brighton Tigers Football Club. In 1978 Brighton Tigers FC joined the Glenelg South Football Association and the following year was renamed to Flagstaff Hill Football Club.
