South Of Scotland Cup
The South of Scotland Cup was an association football cup competition for clubs in the historic counties of Dumfriesshire, Wigtownshire, and Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland. History The competition was a knock-out tournament and had its origins in the Southern Counties Cup consolation tournament; given the few clubs in the area, in 1927 it was decided to use the trophy as a second competitive cup, allowing the Southern Counties Cup finalists to take part as well. The competition was not a success, despite having four clubs who were or would be members of the Scottish League. It only lasting until 1931, and the first competition did not even play to a conclusion. Even Dalbeattie Star's 5–0 win in the 1930 final did not attract much in the way of media attention. Dumfries and Galloway ( sco, Dumfries an Gallowa; gd, Dùn Phrìs is Gall-Ghaidhealaibh) is one of 32 unitary council areas of Scotland and is located in the western Southern Uplands. It covers the counties of Scotland, historic counties of Dumfriesshire, Kirkcudbrightshire, and Wigtownshire, the latter two of which are collectively known as Galloway. Wigtown ( (both used locally); gd, Baile na h-Ùige) is a town and former royal burgh in Wigtownshire, of which it is the county town, within the Dumfries and Galloway region in Scotland. Whithorn ( ʍɪthorn 'HWIT-horn'; ''Taigh Mhàrtainn'' in Gaelic), is a royal burgh in the historic county of Wigtownshire in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, about south of Wigtown. The town was the location of the first recorded Christian church in Scotland, '' Candida Casa'' : the 'White r 'Shining'House', built by Saint Ninian about 397. It is located in the historical parish of Inch in the historic county of Wigtownshire. Nithsdale (''Srath Nid'' in Scottish Gaelic), also known as Strathnith, Stranith or Stranit, is the strath or dale of the River Nith in southern Scotland. Nithsdale was one of the medieval provinces of Scotland. The provinces gradually lost their administrative importance to the shires created from the twelfth century, with Nithsdale forming part of Dumfriesshire. A Nithsdale district covering a similar area to the medieval province was created in 1975, based in the area's main town of Dumfries.
