South Korea At The 2008 Summer Olympics
South Korea competed (as ''Korea'') at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. This is a list of all of the South Korean athletes who qualified for the Olympics and their results. South Korea sent a delegation of 267 athletes to these games. North and South Korea had initially intended to send a joint delegation to the Games, but were unable to agree on the details of its implementation. (See North Korea at the 2008 Summer Olympics.) The South Korean contingent aimed for ten gold medals and to be ranked in the top ten in the games. However, they exceeded expectations and the nation was ranked 7th in gold medals, and 8th in total medals. The 13 gold medals won was the highest number of gold medals earned in its Olympic history. Korean Olympic Committee
The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee (, Abbr.: KOC) is the National Olympic Committee of Republic of Korea (competing as Korea) for the Olympic Games movement and inbound sports issue. It is a non-profit organization that selects players and teams to represent the nation, and raises funds to send them to Olympic events organized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Yun Ok-hee (Korean: 윤옥희, Hanja: 尹玉姬, ; born 1 March 1985) is a South Korean archer, who won the gold medal in the team and a silver in the individual competition at the 2006 Asian Games and is a former world number one. 2008 Summer Olympics At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing Yun finished her ranking round with a total of 667 points, six points behind ranking leader Park Sung-hyun. This gave her the second seed for the final competition bracket in which she faced Albina Kamaltdinova in the first round, beating the archer from Tajikistan 109-102. In the second round, Yun was too strong for Marie-Pier Beaudet (114-107) and via Chen Ling (113-103) in the third round she advanced to the quarter finals. Weightlifting At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Women's +75 Kg
The women's +75 kilograms weightlifting event was the heaviest women's event at the weightlifting competition, allowing competitors with over 75 kilograms of body mass. The competition took place on August 16, starting at 19:00. Each lifter performed in both the snatch and clean and jerk lifts, with the final score being the sum of the lifter's best result in each. The athlete received three attempts in each of the two lifts; the score for the lift was the heaviest weight successfully lifted. Weightlifting At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Men's 77 Kg
The men's 77 kilograms weightlifting event was the fourth lightest men's event at the weightlifting competition, limiting competitors to a maximum of 77 kilograms of body mass. The whole competition took place on August 13, but was divided in two parts due to the number of competitors. Group B weightlifters competed at 10:00, and Group A at 19:00. Weightlifting competitions at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China were held from August 9 to August 19. Competitions were conducted at the Beihang University Gymnasium. The medal records at the 2008 Games were heavily amended following re-analysis of competitors samples in 2015, 2016 and 2017. 26 lifters were disqualified as a result of these tests, including 16 medalists and four lifters who stood to inherit forfeited medals. Sa Jae-Hyouk (Hangul: 사재혁, Hanja: 史載赫; ; born January 29, 1985, in Hongcheon, Gangwon-do, South Korea) is a South Korean weightlifter. He is 165 cm tall. In 2005, Sa won two gold medals in the clean and jerk and total at the 1st Junior World Weightlifting Championships in Busan, South Korea. The men's ISSF 50 meter pistol event at the 2008 Olympic Games took place on August 12 at the Beijing Shooting Range Hall. There were 45 competitors from 32 nations. The event was won by Jin Jong-oh of South Korea, the first of his three consecutive victories in the free pistol. Jin Jong-oh
Jin Jong-oh (진종오; ; born 24 September 1979) is a South Korean sports shooter who competed at the 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics. The only individual four-time Olympic champion in shooting, he is the most successful individual shooter at the Olympics, being the only athlete to have won three consecutive Olympic gold medals in an event (men's 50 metre pistol) in shooting. He holds the world record in both 10 metre air pistol and 50 metre pistol and held the final world record in 50 metre pistol until Jitu Rai broke it in 2017. The men's team archery event at the 2008 Summer Olympics was part of the archery programme and took place at the Olympic Green Archery Field. Ranking Round was scheduled for August 9 and elimination rounds and Finals took place on August 11. All archery is done at a range of 70 metres, with targets 1.22 metres in diameter. Park Kyung-mo (; born August 15, 1975) is an archer from South Korea. He has won gold medals at the three major World Archery Federation events ( Olympics, World Archery Championships and World Cup finals) and is a former world number one. He is married to archer Park Sung-hyun. 2004 Summer Olympics Park competed for Korea at the 2004 Summer Olympics in men's individual archery. He won his first three elimination matches, advancing to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, Park faced Tim Cuddihy of Australia, losing to the eventual bronze medalist 112-111 in the 12-arrow match. Park placed 5th overall and holds the Olympic record for an 18-arrow match at 70 meters. He scored 173 points out of the potential 180 to set the record. Lee Chang-hwan (; born 16 March 1982) is a professional archer from South Korea. He competed in Archery at the 2006 Asian Games and won a gold medal with the men's team consisting of himself, Im Dong-hyun, Jang Yong-ho and Park Kyung-mo. 2008 Summer Olympics At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing Lee finished his ranking round with a total of 669 points, ten points behind leader Juan René Serrano. This gave him the tenth seed for the final competition bracket in which he faced Jiang Lin in the first round, beating the Chinese 112–108. In the second round Lee was too strong for Yusuf Ergin (117-109), breaking the Olympic Record.
