South Carolina Elections, 2018
A general election was held in the U.S. state of South Carolina on November 6, 2018. All of South Carolina's executive officers were up for election as well as all of South Carolina's seven seats in the United States House of Representatives. Governor and lieutenant governor Beginning with the 2018 gubernatorial election, the offices of governor and lieutenant governor were elected jointly as a ticket instead of being elected separately as in prior years. Former incumbent Republican Governor Nikki Haley was term-limited and could not run for re-election to a third consecutive term. Haley was selected as United States Ambassador to the United Nations in the Donald Trump administration. Haley's nomination was confirmed. Former Lieutenant Governor Henry McMaster became governor on January 24, 2017, for the remainder of the term. It is owned by GANNETT SATELLITE INFORMATION NETWORK, LLC. It is the closest daily newspaper to Clemson University, the newspaper's sports department heavily covers the sports of the Clemson Tigers. History G. Pierce Brown founded the precursor afternoon newspaper the ''Anderson Daily Mail'' in 1899. Wilton E. It was created from a merger of the Center for Responsive Politics (CRP) and the National Institute on Money in Politics (NIMP). The South Carolina Democratic Party is the affiliate of the Democratic Party in the U.S. state of South Carolina. It is headquartered in Columbia, South Carolina. History The Democratic Party thrived during the Second Party System between 1832 and the mid-1850s and was one of the causes of the collapse of the Whig Party. The South Carolina Republican Party (SCGOP) is the state affiliate of the national Republican Party in South Carolina. It is one of two major political parties in the state, along with the South Carolina Democratic Party, and is the dominant party. The South Carolina House of Representatives is the lower house of the South Carolina General Assembly. It consists of 124 representatives elected to two-year terms at the same time as U.S. congressional elections. Unlike many legislatures, seating on the floor is not divided by party, but is arranged by county delegation – a legacy of the original apportionment of the chamber. Molly Mitchell Spearman (born January 23, 1954) is an American educator and politician who served as the South Carolina Superintendent of Education from 2015 to 2023. She is a Republican. She grew up on her family's farm in Saluda County, South Carolina. She received a B.A. in music education from Lander University, has a master's degree in education supervision from George Washington University, and an education specialist degree from the University of South Carolina. She taught music at public schools, served four terms in the South Carolina House of Representatives, and was Deputy Superintendent of Education before being elected Superintendent of Education in November 2014. Richard A. Eckstrom (born June 23, 1948) is an American politician from the state of South Carolina. A Republican, he served as the comptroller general of South Carolina from 2003 until his resignation in 2023. From 1995 to 1999, he served one term as the South Carolina Treasurer. When elected as Comptroller General, he was the first Republican to serve in the post since 1876. Early life Eckstrom was born in Duluth, Minnesota, on June 23, 1948.
