South African Type XJ Tender
The South African type XJ tender was a steam locomotive tender. Two Type XJ tenders entered service in 1911, as tenders to the two Mountain type steam locomotives which were acquired by the Cape Government Railways in that year. The South African Railways Class 4 4-8-2 of 1911 was a steam locomotive from the pre-Union era in the Cape of Good Hope. In 1911, the Cape Government Railways placed two steam locomotives with a Mountain type wheel arrangement in service. South African Class 8E 4-8-0
The South African Railways Class 8E of 1903 was a steam locomotive from the pre-Union era in the Cape of Good Hope. In 1903, at the same time that the Cape Government Railways ordered its second batch of 38 8th Class Mastodon type steam locomotives, four additional experimental locomotives of the same class were ordered, built to modified specifications to accommodate a larger firegrate area. The South African Railways Class Experimental 5 2-8-2 of 1906 was a steam locomotive from the pre-Union era in the Cape of Good Hope. In 1906, the Cape Government Railways placed a single experimental steam locomotive with a Mikado type wheel arrangement in service.
