South African Type XF Tender
The South African type XF tender was a steam locomotive Tender (rail), tender from the pre-Union of South Africa, Union era in Transvaal Colony, Transvaal. Type XF tenders first entered service in 1902, as tenders to the Mastodon type steam locomotives which were acquired by the Imperial Military Railways in that year. South African Class 8A 4-8-0
The South African Railways Class 8A 4-8-0 of 1902 was a steam locomotive from the pre-Union of South Africa, Union era in Transvaal Colony, Transvaal. In 1902, the Imperial Military Railways placed forty Cape 8th Class 4-8-0, Mastodon type steam locomotives in service. When the Central South African Railways was established later that same year, they were designated Class 8-L1. South African Railways
Transnet Freight Rail is a South African rail transport company, formerly known as Spoornet. It was part of the South African Railways and Harbours Administration, a state-controlled organisation that employed hundreds of thousands of people for decades from the first half of the 20th century and was widely referred to by the initials SAR&H (SAS&H in Afrikaans). The South African Railways Class 8D of 1903 was a steam locomotive from the pre-Union era in the Cape of Good Hope. In 1903, when the first batch of 8th Class Mastodon type locomotives had been tried and proven successful, the Cape Government Railways placed another 38 8th Class steam locomotives in service, six on the Western System, twenty on the Midland System and twelve on the Eastern System. The South African Railways Class 6E 4-6-0 of 1898 was a steam locomotive from the pre-Union era in the Orange Free State. In 1898, the ''Oranje-Vrijstaat Gouwerment-Spoorwegen'' ordered its final six new Cape 6th Class locomotives. When British forces invaded the Orange Free State during the Second Boer War, these locomotives were taken over by the Imperial Military Railways. South African Class 6B 4-6-0
The South African Railways Class 6B of 1897 was a steam locomotive from the pre-Union era in the Cape of Good Hope. In 1897 and 1898, the Cape Government Railways placed a third batch of 55 6th Class 4-6-0 steam locomotives in service, 32 on its Western System, 21 on its Midland System and two on its Eastern System. During the Second Boer War, seven were transferred to the Imperial Military Railways on loan, and in 1907 four were sold to the Benguela Railway in Angola. In 1912, when the remaining 51 locomotives were assimilated into the South African Railways, they were renumbered and designated Class 6B.
