Soup Or Sonic
''Soup or Sonic'' is an animated cartoon in the Merrie Melodies series, starring Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner. It was first aired on May 21, 1980 as a part of the television special ''Bugs Bunny's Bustin' Out All Over'' and was one of three new cartoons released. This is the only canonical cartoon in which Wile E. Coyote catches the Road Runner without him escaping afterward, although due to the existing circumstances, Wile E. is physically unable to actually ''eat'' the Road Runner. "Soup or Sonic" was directed by Chuck Jones and Phil Monroe. The title is a homophonic variation, a play on the terms " supersonic" and 'soup or salad', as one might be offered by a waiter in a restaurant. In comparison to other episodes, this is the longest episode, with a length of 9 minutes and 11 seconds. Chuck Jones
Charles Martin Jones (September 21, 1912 – February 22, 2002) was an American animator, director, and painter, best known for his work with Warner Bros. Cartoons on the ''Looney Tunes'' and ''Merrie Melodies'' series of shorts. He wrote, produced, and/or directed many classic animated cartoon, Animated Cartoon shorts starring Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner, Pepé Le Pew, and Porky Pig, among others. Jones started his career in 1933 alongside Tex Avery, Friz Freleng, Bob Clampett, and Robert McKimson at the Leon Schlesinger Production's Termite Terrace studio, where they created and developed the Looney Tunes characters. During the World War II, Second World War, Jones directed many of the ''Private Snafu'' (1943–1946) shorts which were shown to members of the United States military. Irv Anderson (animator)
Irvin Neil Anderson (June 18, 1923 – November 17, 2008) was a Minnesota politician and member of the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1965 to 1983, and again from 1991 to 2007. From International Falls, Anderson entered politics at approximately the same time that he was elected union president at the M & O Paper Company, the International Falls paper mill where he worked. A Democrat, he represented the old District 64 and 64B and, later, District 3A. The sprawling district included all or portions of Beltrami, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake of the Woods and St. Louis counties in the northern part of the state. Anderson served as majority leader of the House from 1973 to 1981, and again, briefly, in 1993 before becoming Speaker of the House in September 1993, a position he held until 1997. Bill Lava
William "Bill" Benjamin Lava (March 18, 1911 – February 20, 1971) was a composer and arranger who composed and conducted music for feature films as well as that for the Warner Bros.' ''Looney Tunes'' and ''Merrie Melodies'' animated cartoons from 1962 to 1969, replacing the deceased Milt Franklyn, making him the last composer and arranger in the classic era of Warner Bros. Cartoons. Lava's music was markedly different from that of Franklyn and previous composer Carl Stalling, with a tendency towards atonality. A sense of tension is often created in Lava's scores using sequences based on the notes of the diminished seventh chord. Lava also composed and sang the theme to the TV western series ''Cheyenne'' and composed the original theme from ''Gunsmoke''. ''War and Pieces'' is a 1964 Warner Bros. '' Looney Tunes'' theatrical animated short directed by Chuck Jones. The short was released on June 6, 1964, and stars Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner. It was the last ''Looney Tunes''/''Merrie Melodies'' cartoon directed by Chuck Jones until 1979's '' Freeze Frame''. The title is a pun on the Leo Tolstoy novel ''War and Peace''. Plot 1. Wile E. Coyote (Caninus nervous rex) attempts to hurl a hand grenade at Road Runner (Burn-em upus asphaltus), but it rebounds off a saguaro, and explodes on the Coyote. He walks away, planning his next scheme. 2. Wile E. is at another cliff, attempting to use a bow with a pulley to shoot himself at the Road Runner, with his tail being tied by a rope attached to the pulley. The pulley rope then rips the lower part of his hide off, exposing him in his underwear, and with him hanging onto the bow until it breaks.
