Sound (BBC TV Series)
''Sound'' is a weekly music, entertainment and chat show broadcast by BBC Two as part of the BBC Switch teen strand. It was presented by BBC Radio 1 DJs Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw. The show first aired in 2007 and the first series featured various bands performing out on location. A second series returned in September 2008; however, the show had been markedly revamped. It now came from a studio apartment location and featured more guest chat and less performances. It introduced new segments like Nick's desk item 'The Grimshaw Files' - a comedic look at the world of music and entertainment, and Annie's New Music Forecast - in which Annie showcased three new tracks to check out that week. The second series ran until December 2008. A third series ran from January to June 2009, and added comedian Holly Walsh to the presenting team. BBC Two
BBC Two is a British free-to-air public broadcast television network owned and operated by the BBC. It covers a wide range of subject matter, with a remit "to broadcast programmes of depth and substance" in contrast to the more mainstream and popular BBC One. Like the BBC's other domestic TV and radio channels, it is funded by the television licence, and is therefore free of commercial advertising. BBC Switch
BBC Switch was the brand for BBC content aimed at UK teenagers. The brand was launched on Saturday 20 October 2007 on BBC Two and ceased broadcasting on 18 December 2010. It included a block of television programmes on BBC Two, an online portal and programming on the BBC's youth radio station, BBC Radio 1. It was BBC Two's second programming block aimed at teenagers, following on from DEF II. Content Television Four programmes were originally shown as part of BBC Switch on Saturday afternoons on BBC Two. BBC Radio 1
BBC Radio 1 is a British national radio station owned and operated by the BBC. It specialises in modern popular music and current chart hits throughout the day. The station provides alternative genres at night, including electronica, dance, hip hop and indie, while its sister station 1Xtra plays black contemporary music, including hip hop and R&B. Radio 1 also runs two online streams, Radio 1 Dance, dedicated to dance music, and Radio 1 Relax, dedicated to chill-out music; both are available to listen only on BBC Sounds. Annie Mac
Annie Mac (born 18 July 1978), is an Irish DJ, broadcaster and writer. She hosted a variety of shows on BBC Radio 1, including BBC Switch and ''Future Sounds''. She also DJed in various locations, including hosting her AMP (Annie Mac Presents) Lost and Found venues in places like Ibiza. Personal life Annie Mac was born in Dublin, Ireland on 18 July 1978. After attending Wesley College in Dublin, she studied English literature at Queen's University Belfast, Northern Ireland. Annie lives in Queen's Park, London. She has a son (born May 2013) with her husband DJ Toddla T. She gave birth to her second child on 6 January 2017. While she was on maternity leave her radio show was presented by MistaJam and then Mac returned to the station on 12 June 2017. Nick Grimshaw
Nicholas Peter Andrew Grimshaw (born 14 August 1984), also known as Grimmy, is an English television and former radio presenter, podcaster and author. He became known for having hosted a variety of shows on BBC Radio 1. He is also known as a television presenter for his Channel 4 roles in T4 and ''The Album Chart Show''. In 2015, he was a judge on the twelfth series of ''The X Factor''. Early life Grimshaw was born in the Oldham, Greater Manchester and grew up there. He attended the University of Liverpool between 2002 and 2005, studying Communication and Media Studies, but failed his final year, graduating with a DipHE rather than a bachelor's degree. During his studies at the University of Liverpool, Grimshaw was also a member of the University's student radio station, ICON Radio (now Liverpool Guild Student Media). Holly Walsh
Holly Dione Walsh (born 8 November 1980) is an English comedian and comedy writer. Early life The daughter of an Anglican vicar, Walsh attended Christ's Hospital School, before going on to read History of Art at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, which she described as 'the most boring three years of my life". After graduating she worked in various small art galleries in East London. Comedy While working in galleries, Walsh attended comedy writing evening classes including ''Stand up and Deliver'' and as a direct result wrote for Jo Caulfield on BBC Radio 4. "Leap of Faith" is the third single by British band Hadouken!, the single was released on the bands mixtape ''Not Here to Please You'', the single itself was digitally released on 18 November 2007. Background The track is described by the band's official Bebo website as: The track was released on 12 November on the EP titled ''Not Here to Please You'', and then released as a digital single on 18 November 2007. It peaked at number 97 on iTunes. It is also the only single by Hadouken! to be left out of their debut album, '' Music for an Accelerated Culture'', because it does not match the style of other songs on the album, and was written as an experiment. Hadouken! (band)
Hadouken! are a British band formed in London in 2006 by singer, writer and producer James Smith and synth player Alice Spooner along with guitarist Daniel "Pilau" Rice, bassist Christopher Purcell and drummer Nick Rice. The band name is taken from the special attack of the same name from the ''Street Fighter'' video game series. It was in Leeds that Hadouken! began their own record label, Surface Noise Records. History Early years After forming the label, Smith began writing and demoing the first Hadouken! tracks.
