Soomaaliyeey Toosoo
"Soomaaliyeey toosoo" ("Somalis, Wake Up") was the national anthem of Somalia from 2000 until August 2012. It was adopted by the Transitional National Government, replacing the unnamed former national anthem. The lyrics of the Somalia National Anthem were composed by Cali Mire Cawaale The narration was sung by Yusuf Haji Adam.. History "''Soomaaliyeey toosoo''" is a well-known Somali song that dates from the early 1940s. It was first composed by Cali Mire Cawaale and sung by Yusuf Haji Adam and Ali Mire. sometime in the 1940s. It was sung to mark independence day on July 1, 1960, and was regularly performed by children in the mornings at schools. "Soomaaliyeey toosoo" was officially adopted in July 2000 to mark the 40th anniversary of Somalian independence. In August 2012, following the endorsement of Somalia's new Provisional Constitution, "Soomaaliyeey toosoo" was replaced as the national anthem by "Qolobaa Calankeed". Written and composed by Abdullahi Qarshe, it was adopted on 1 August 2012 with the passage of the Constitution of Somalia, Somali national constitution, (1 August 2012), Somalia in which it is enshrined. Transitional National Government
The Transitional National Government (TNG) was the internationally recognized central government of Somalia from 2000 to 2004. Overview The TNG was established in April–May 2000 at the Somalia National Peace Conference held in Arta, Djibouti. It was militarily and politically opposed by the Somalia Reconciliation and Restoration Council, which was formed by faction leaders including Hussein Mohamed Farrah Aidid and Mohamed Dhere. In principle, the Transitional National Charter, which gave rise to the TNG, recognized de facto regional autonomy and the existence of new entities in the north of the former Somalia, home to relatively homogenous clans. History The Somali Republic was formed on 1 July 1960 following the union of the newly independent Trust Territory of Somalia (the former Italian Somaliland, now Somalia) and the State of Somaliland (the former British Somaliland, now Somaliland). At this time a wordless and untitled piece by Italian composer Giuseppe Blanc was adopted as the national anthem.
