''Sons of the Saddle'' is a 1930 pre-Code American Western film directed by Harry Joe Brown, written by Bennett Cohen and Leslie Mason, and starring Ken Maynard. It was released on August 3, 1930, by Universal Pictures. Plot Maynard portrays a ranch foreman who fights a gang of outlaws. Harry Joe Brown
Harry Joe Brown (September 22, 1890 – April 28, 1972) was an American film producer, and earlier a theatre and film director. Biography Harry Joe Brown was born in 1890 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. As a producer, he had a partnership with director Budd Boetticher, actor Randolph Scott and screenwriter Burt Kennedy, which generated a series of five westerns between 1957 and 1960 (''The Tall T, Decision at Sundown, Buchanan Rides Alone, Ride Lonesome, Comanche Station'') via a company he created with Scott which eventually became known as Ranown Pictures Corp. He produced the American debut films of both Errol Flynn in '' Captain Blood'' and Sean Flynn in ''Son of Captain Blood''. Robert Carroll Nye (October 4, 1901 – March 17, 1974) was an American film actor. He appeared in more than 50 films between 1925 and 1944. His most memorable role was Frank Kennedy, Scarlett's second husband, in ''Gone with the Wind''. Biography Nye was born in Akron, Ohio. His mother, Myra Nye, was the club editor of the ''Los Angeles Times''; his father, W. P. Nye, was postmaster in Covina, California. Nye attended Covina, California, schools and the University of California at Los Angeles and later became a reporter and radio editor with the ''Times'' like his mother. Ted McCord (cinematographer)
Ted McCord, A.S.C. (August 2, 1900 – January 19, 1976) was an American cinematographer. Biography Born in Sullivan County, Indiana, McCord received three Academy Award nominations. The first two '' Johnny Belinda'' (1948) and ''Two for the Seesaw'' (1962) were for black-and white cinematography, and the third ''The Sound of Music'' (1965) was for color. McCord died of cancer in Glendale, California at the age of 75. He is interred at Glendale's Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Harry Todd (December 13, 1863 – February 15, 1935) was an American actor. He appeared in nearly 400 films between 1909 and 1935. On Broadway, Todd was a member of the ensemble in '' The American Way'' (1939). Todd died in Glendale, California, from a heart attack at the age of 71. He was married to actress Margaret Joslin. Francis Ford (born Francis Joseph Feeney; August 14, 1881 – September 5, 1953) was an American film actor, writer and director. He was the mentor and elder brother of film director John Ford. He also appeared in many of the latter's movies, including ''Young Mr. Lincoln'' (1939) and ''The Quiet Man'' (1952). Biography Ford was born in Portland, Maine.
