SONS Ltd
SONS Records is an independent record label based in Stoke-on-Trent, a trading name for SONS Records Ltd. The original company SONS Ltd was formed in 2004 by Seb Clarke, who was shortly after joined by: Neil Graham, Al Padmore, James Wakefield and Tangwyn Davies. The label consists largely of bands native to the North Staffordshire area and has become a noted figure both locally and nationally, having recently received attention from Chris Hawkins, Steve Lamacq, and Huw Stephens ( 6music, BBC Radio 1) as well as Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie ( BBC Radio 2) SONS has earned comparisons to Factory Records for its DIY ethic and its unique 'SONS sound'. In May 2020 following a decade long hiatus, SONS announced the launch of a series of tracks from their new roster of artists (some of which have yet to be released). Seb Clarke
This Is Seb Clarke (TISC) are an English 12-piece Soul music, soul-punk rock, punk ensemble from Stoke-On-Trent, North Staffordshire. Their line-up plays Hammond organ, piano, Bass guitar, bass, Drum kit, drums, lead guitar, rhythm guitar and has a brass section. The group are named after their frontman and principal songwriter, Sebastian Clarke. This Is Seb Clarke's debut album, ''Rover'' was released in 2005. "Spring Morning Sunshine" reached No. 12 in the UK Indie Chart in 2006. The follow-up single, "I Just Can’t Carry On", from their second album, ''Vox'', entered the indie chart at No. 7. The Novellos
The Novellos are an English, four-piece indie rock group formed in Stoke on Trent taking large influences from 1960s music, soul and post punk. The group has earned a reputation for their frantic live performances and their sporadic single releases. They first rose to prominence in March 2008 with their first single, "The Lady Is Not For Turning" written by Mike Thomas, arranged and produced by founder of SONS Ltd, Seb Clarke of This Is Seb Clarke. The song cited the ever present echoes of Margaret Thatcher in their hometown of Stoke on Trent, and was nationally championed across BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, BBC 6 Music and XFM. Andy Rourke
Andrew Michael Rourke (born 17 January 1964) is an English musician, best known as the bassist of the Smiths. He is known for his melodic approach to bass playing. Career Rourke's father was Irish while his mother was English. He received an acoustic guitar from his parents when he was seven years old. At the age of 11 he befriended the young John Maher (soon to be Johnny Marr) with whom he shared an interest in music. The pair spent lunch breaks in school jamming and playing on their guitars. When Marr and Rourke formed a band, he invited Rourke (still then a guitarist) to try on bass, which he fell in love with and has stuck with ever since. Rourke left school when he was 15. Jon Kennedy
Jon Kennedy is a drummer and electronic musician who was born in Dukinfield, Greater Manchester, England. He was discovered in 2000 when he passed a demo CD to Ninja Tune artist Mr Scruff. Scruff played tracks from the CD soon after on his "Unfold" radio show on Brighton's Juice 107.2. Brighton-based Tru Thoughts independent record label contacted Kennedy on hearing the tracks and signed him. Having recorded in Mr Scruff's Stockport studio, Kennedy now lives and records in Bristol, and regularly plays in both Bristol and London. His first three 12" singles, and his debut album, ''We're Just Waiting For You Now'' were released between 2001 and 2002 on Tru Thoughts.
