Songtan
Songtan is an area in the northern end of Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggido, South Korea. Songtan achieved city status in its own right in 1981, five years earlier than Pyeongtaek, but merged, along with Pyeongtaek County, into Pyeongtaek City in May 1995. Most residents still consider it to have an identity separate from the rest of Pyeongtaek City. To appease some discontent at the merger Pyeongtaek city officials decided to keep the Songtan City Hall intact and convert it into a branch office of the Pyeongtak City Hall, as shown in the picture above, where Songtan residents can still go for city provided services. At consolidation, Songtan had over 110,000 residents, slightly less than the population of pre-consolidation Pyeongtaek City. The district has an administrative office which formerly served as Songtan City Hall. Seojeong-ri Station
Seojeongni Station is a station in Seojeong-dong, Pyeongtaek, South Korea. Mugunghwa-ho trains running on the Gyeongbu Line stop here. Additionally, services on Seoul Subway Line 1 have been calling at this station since 2005. Its station subname is ''Kookje College'' (An international college). History It is the name of a station on Line 1 of the National Railways located at 427-1 Seojeong-dong, Pyeongtaek-si. There are three good wells called Seodunmul nearby, so it was called Seojeongni, and as the National Railway Line 1 was extended to Cheonan, the station got its name. Seojeongni Station opened with the Gyeongbu Line in 1905 to service the agricultural area between Pyeongtaek and Osan. It featured Bidulgi (4th class) and limited Tongil (3rd class) services. Seoul Metropolitan Subway Line 1 of the Seoul Metropolitan Subway is a rapid transit and commuter rail line which links central Seoul, South Korea to Soyosan Station in the northeast, Incheon in the southwest, and Sinchang (Soonchunhyang Univ.) via Suwon and Cheonan in the south. The central underground portion of this rail line is the oldest subway section in the Seoul Metropolitan Subway system. Osan
Osan () is a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, approximately south of Seoul. The population of the city is around 200,000. The local economy is supported by a mix of agricultural and industrial enterprises. It is famous for one of the largest markets in South Korea, Osan Market, which has been in continuous operation since 1792. The city was the scene of the first battle between the US and North Korea during the Korean War in 1950; there is a statue and museum dedicated to UN forces on the outskirts of the city. The United States Air Force base named after the city, Osan Air Base, is not actually located in the city, but is instead south, in the Songtan district (formerly a separate city) of Pyeongtaek. ''Hotteok'' (, ), sometimes called Hoeddeok, is a type of filled pancake; and is a popular street food in South Korea. It originates in Korean Chinese cuisine, when it was first brought into Korea from China during the 19th century. Preparation The dough for ''hotteok'' is made from wheat flour, water, milk, sugar, and yeast. The dough is allowed to rise for several hours. Handful-sized balls of this stiff dough are filled with a sweet mixture, which may contain brown sugar, honey, chopped peanuts, and cinnamon. The filled dough is then placed on a greased griddle, and pressed flat into a large circle, this is done with a stainless steel circle and wooden handle as it cooks. ''Pojangmacha'' (포장마차) is form of commercial establishment based out of a small tent (sometimes on wheels) or street stall found in South Korea. These establishment sell popular street foods, such as ''hotteok'', ''gimbap'', ''tteokbokki'', ''sundae (Korean food), sundae'', dakkochi(Korean skewered chicken)'', ''odeng'', ''Mandu (dumpling), mandu'', and ''anju (food), anju'' (dishes accompanied with drinking).
