Songpyong Station
Sŏngp'yŏng station is a railway station in Kangal-li, Onsŏng County, North Hamgyŏng, North Korea; it is the endpoint of the Sŏngp'yŏng Line of the Korean State Railway. History The station was opened by the Tomun Railway Company on 1 December 1922, together with the rest of the Sŏngp'yŏng Line as well as the Sangsambong– Chongsŏng section of their mainline from Hoeryŏng to Tonggwanjin. Onsong County
Onsŏng County is a county ( ''kun'') in North Hamgyong Province, North Korea, located near the border with China. The administrative center is the town ( ''ŭp'') of Onsong. Onsong is the alleged site of the former Onsong concentration camp, now closed. History Onsong was one of the six post/garrisons () established under the order of Sejong the Great of Joseon (1418–1450) to safeguard his people from the hostile Chinese and Manchurian nomads living in Manchuria. Geography Onsong lies along the Tumen River, which forms the border with China. To the north of Onsong is Jilin Province, China. Onsong also contains the northernmost point in Korea, at 43°0'39″ N. Liangshui (), in Tumen prefecture, is the closest Chinese town across the river. The land of Onsong is mainly mountainous, although a part is flatland. North Hamgyong Province
North Hamgyong Province (Hamgyŏngbukdo, ) is the northernmost province of North Korea. The province was formed in 1896 from the northern half of the former Hamgyong Province. Geography The province is bordered by China (Jilin) on the north, South Hamgyong on the southwest and Ryanggang on the west. On the east is the Sea of Japan. The province is home to the Musudan-ri rocket launching site and the Hoeryong concentration camp. In 2004, Rason was reabsorbed back into the province and since 2010, Rason is again a Directly Governed City. Railway Station
