Song Of Parkland
''Song of Parkland'' is a short HBO Documentary film featuring the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School drama students and their teacher, Melody Herzfeld. Filmed in the months following the shooting at their school, the half-hour documentary follows the students as they return to school and decide to continue with the musical they were working on at the time of the attack. Directed and produced by Amy Schatz, the film includes performances, interviews, songs written by the students about their experience, and scenes from walk-outs and rallies across the country as other young people, inspired by the Parkland activists, take to the streets to call for an end to gun violence. Stoneman Douglas High School Shooting
On February 14, 2018, 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz opened fire on students and staff at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in the Miami suburban town of Parkland, Florida, murdering 17 people and injuring 17 others. Cruz, a former student at the school, fled the scene on foot by blending in with other students, and was arrested without incident approximately one hour later in nearby Coral Springs. Police and prosecutors investigated "a pattern of disciplinary issues and unnerving behavior". The killing spree is the deadliest high school shooting in United States history, surpassing the Columbine High School massacre that killed 15, including the perpetrators, in Colorado in April 1999. The Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Children's Program was presented to television programming aimed towards children in any format. Series, specials and non-fiction programming were all eligible for the award. Prior to 1974, both daytime and primetime programming was eligible.
