"Son of a Gun" is the debut single of British dance music DJ Jake Williams, released under the name JX. It was released in March 1994, reaching number six in the United Kingdom and Australia and number 35 in the Netherlands. The song contains samples from the 1976 song "Touch and Go" by Ecstasy, Passion & Pain featuring Barbara Roy. Critical reception In his weekly UK chart commentary in ''Dotmusic'', James Masterton described the song as a "bubbling synthesised dance hit". A reviewer from ''Music Week'' gave it four out of five, adding, "A corking house tune that has failed to keep its head down, hence the reissue. Jake Williams
Jake Williams (born 1974) is a British electronic music producer and remixer, who currently records as Rex the Dog. Rex the Dog currently releases on Kompakt Records. As Rex the Dog, Williams is a proponent of DIY electronics and performs live with a self-built modular synthesizer. Williams first came to public attention as JX in 1994 following a recording contract with Hooj Choons, a United Kingdom dance independent record label. Williams has also recorded as Mekka and wrote the song "Bullet in the Gun" as part of Paul Oakenfold's collective Planet Perfecto Planet Perfecto was a dance supergroup, formed in 1997 by Paul Oakenfold, Ian Masterson and Jake Williams. FFRR Records (sometimes credited as Full Frequency Range Recordings) is a dance music label previously run and founded by England, English DJ Pete Tong. Originally the dance music label of London Records, FFRR is currently a sublabel of Parlophone, a division of Warner Music Group. The label name references the recording technique (full frequency range recording) developed by Edward Lewis (Decca), Sir Edward Lewis's Decca Records. The European Dance Radio Chart (also known as European Dance Radio Top 25) was a weekly chart compiled by pan-European magazine ''Music & Media''. After dance music had played a more dominant role on the magazine's Eurochart Hot 100 in the beginning of the 1990s, the new chart was launched on 28 September 1991.
