Somerset Women Cricket Team
The Somerset Women cricket team is the women's representative cricket team for the English ceremonial county of Somerset. They play their home games at various grounds across Somerset, most often in Taunton, and are captained by Sophie Luff. Somerset consistently competed in either Division 1 or Division 2 of the Women's County Championship, and won Division 2 of the Women's Twenty20 Cup in 2019. In 2021, they won the West Midlands Group of the Twenty20 Cup. They are partnered with the regional team Western Storm. History 1956–1999: Early History The first recorded match involving Somerset Women was in 1956, against Surrey Women Second XI, which they lost by 116 runs. David Roberts (cricketer, Born 1976)
David James Roberts (born 29 December 1976) is a Cornish cricketer. Roberts is a right-handed batsman who bowls right-arm medium pace. He was born at Truro, Cornwall. Roberts made his first-class debut for Northamptonshire against Oxford University in 1996. His County Championship debut came in the same season against Essex. From 1996 to 1999, he represented the county in 17 first-class matches, the last of which came against Somerset. In his 17 first-class matches, he scored 751 runs at a batting average of 25.89, with 2 half centuries and a single century high score of 117. In the field he took 8 catches. In 2001, he made his debut in List A cricket for the Northamptonshire Cricket Board against the Yorkshire Cricket Board in the 2001 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy. His second and final List A match for the Board came against Northamptonshire in the same competition. 2016 Women's County Championship
The 2016 Women's County One-Day Championship was the 20th cricket Women's County Championship season. The Championship was won by Kent who recorded their seventh championship, setting a new record for the number of championships won. The runners-up were Sussex. This was the last season in which Division 4 was contested. Following a reorganisation of the structure of the tournament, all the teams in Division 4 were promoted to an expanded Division 3 in 2017.
