Somerby is a village and civil parish in the Borough of Melton, Melton district, in the county of Leicestershire, England. It is south of Melton Mowbray. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 812. Somerby is a small country village containing a parish church (All Saints), a primary school, a Doctor's office, Doctor's surgery, a pub, a small shop/post office, and a large Equestrian Centre. The population is close to 500. It is the largest village in the parish of Somerby and is located in East Leicestershire close to the border with Rutland; the parish also includes the settlements of Burrough on the Hill, Leesthorpe and Pickwell. The surrounding countryside is very attractive and is often referred to as 'High Leicestershire'. Much of the Parish is several hundred feet above sea level and there are often superb views to be found. Somerby (also known as Somerby juxta Bigby or Somerby by Brigg) is a hamlet and civil parish in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated approximately east from the town of Brigg and in the ecclesiastical parish of Somerby. Somerby lies in the Lincolnshire Wolds, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, between the villages of Bigby and Searby. Church The parish church, once described as a "small uninteresting edifice", is a Grade II* listed building. It is dedicated to Saint Margaret and dates from the 13th century with later additions. It was restored in 1884-85 by H M Townsend of Peterborough. An effigy of a knight dating from the late 13th century lies on the south side of the nave. In chancel niches are two marble urns dedicated to two sons of the Weston family who died in the service of the East India Company in 1762 and 1767, respectively. Somerby By Gainsborough
Somerby (or Somerby by Gainsborough) is a hamlet in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated south-east from the town of Gainsborough, and lies in the civil parish of Corringham. The settlement is best known as the home of Richard Topcliffe, the infamous Tudor torturer and persecutor of Roman Catholics. Topcliffe brought one of his victims, Anne Bellamy, to Somerby in 1593 where she had a baby - believed to be Topcliffe's. He died here in 1604. Excavations at Somerby in 1957 showed it was once larger, revealing 15th-century streets and house foundations, with finds ranging from the 12th to the 16th century. Somerby Golf Club And Community
Somerby Golf Club is a private golf club and community on the north side of Byron, Minnesota, United States. The course was designed by architect and golf pro John Fought, and by golf pro Tom Lehman. Construction for the course and the surrounding community began in May 2002 and was completed in April 2004. The principal developer was Golden Tee Development LLC, a partnership between Minnesota-based companies, Ames Construction, Inc. and Wensmann Homes, Inc. On November 11, 2008, Ames Construction, Inc. announced their acquisition of Wensmann's interest in the joint venture, resulting in 100% interest. Old Somerby (pronounced ''Summerby'') is a village and civil parish in the South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England, south-east of Grantham. It lies on the B1176 road, with the village centre about east of its junction with the A52 and B6403, and adjacent to the East Coast Main Line. Structure The civil parish population at the 2011 census was 224. Adjacent villages are Ropsley and Boothby Pagnell. The village divides into Old Somerby, High Somerby and Low Somerby. Amenities The church parish is part of The North Beltisloe Group of Beltisloe Deanery in the Diocese of Lincoln.
