Thamirabarani River
The Thamirabarani or Tamraparni or Porunai is a perennial river that originates from the Agastyarkoodam peak of Pothigai hills of the Western Ghats, above Papanasam in the Ambasamudram taluk. It flows through Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts of the Tamil Nadu state of southern India into the Gulf of Mannar. It was called the Tamraparni River in the pre-classical period, a name it lent to the island of Sri Lanka. The old Tamil name of the river is Porunai. From the source to sea, the river is about long and is the only perennial river in Tamil Nadu. This river flows towards north direction initially. However, it changes to east direction later. Etymology From the Tamilakam era, the area of the Tamraparni river, in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, has had changes in its name, from the original ''Tan Porunai'' river to ''Tamira Porunai'', from ''Tamraparni'' to ''Tambraparni'' and now called "Thamirabarani River". Solen, North Dakota
Solen is a city in Sioux County, North Dakota, United States and on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation. The population was 70 at the 2020 census. The town has a gas station and automotive repair shop called Hoffman's Garage which has been family owned and operated since the early 1900s as well as a local bar, Last Chance Saloon. History Solen was founded in 1910 along a Northern Pacific Railway branch line that ran from Mandan to Mott. The name comes from Mary Louise Van Solen, the half-Lakota and half-French daughter of Eagle Woman (Matilda Galpin) and one of the first schoolteachers on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation. ''Solen'' was a Swedish 17th-century galleon ship, sunk during the battle with the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, Polish squadron at Oliwa on November 28, 1627. History The Galeon ''Solen'' was classified in Sweden as the lagom örlogskepp – a medium-sized ship. It belonged to a group of nine vessels ordered in 1623 by the Swedes in the Netherlands (among which was also the Tigern (ship), Tigern). She entered the Swedish service in 1624. She was converted into a warship and armed in Alvsborg. Originally, until 1626 it was part of the Swedish fleet in the west sea, in the waters of the Kattegat. During the Polish-Swedish War, ''Solen'' was part of the Swedish forces blocking the Bay of Gdansk. The ship's commander was Alexander Foratth. ''Solen'' with the other ships of the Swedish squadron took part in the Battle of Oliwa, battle against the Polish fleet at Oliwa on November 28, 1627. Solen Désert-Mariller (born 2 August 1982) is a French sprinter who specializes in the 400 metres. She was born in Brest. She competed in the 200 metres at the 2003 World Indoor Championships, and then in the 400 metres at the 2003 World Championships, the 2005 World Championships, the 2006 European Championships, the 2007 World Championships and the 2009 World Championships without reaching the final. She won the bronze medal at the 2005 Jeux de la Francophonie. In the 4 x 400 metres relay she finished fifth at the 2002 European Championships, seventh at the 2006 European Championships and seventh at the 2009 World Championships, and also competed at the 2003 World Championships, the 2007 World Championships and the 2008 Olympic Games.
