The Society of Local Council Clerks (SLCC) is the professional body for Local Council Clerks. As of 2017, it represents the Clerks to over 5,000 councils. History The SLCC was formed in 1972 at a side meeting held during the National Association of Local Councils The National Association of Local Councils (NALC) is a membership organisation and the only national body representing the interests of local (parish and town) councils. In 2001, the National Executive Council took the decision to appoint professional officers to run the society which has seen it grow to serve over 5000 councils with a turnover of over £1,000,000. Taunton
Taunton () is the county town of Somerset, England, with a 2011 population of 69,570. Its thousand-year history includes a 10th-century monastic foundation, Taunton Castle, which later became a priory. The Normans built a castle owned by the Bishops of Winchester. Parts of the inner ward house were turned into the Museum of Somerset and Somerset Military Museum.
