"Smurk Carter" is a song by American rapper Lil Durk and his record label Only the Family. It was released through the label alongside Empire Distribution as the lead and only single from their collaborative compilation album, ''Nightmares in the Trenches'', on November 10, 2023. Durk wrote the song with producer Chopsquad DJ and the official music video was released on the same day. Background A few days before the song was released, Lil Durk previewed it among other tracks at a Sirius XM + Pandora Playback event in Atlanta. According to Durk, the song was inspired by rappers Lil Wayne and Jay-Z. The title of the song references Wayne's surname, Carter, and cover art of the single features Lil Durk adorning Wayne's iconic face tattoos. Durk Derrick Banks (born October 19, 1992), known professionally as Lil Durk, is an American rapper and singer. He is the lead member and founder of the collective and record label Only the Family (OTF). Durk garnered a cult following with the release of his ''Signed to the Streets'' mixtape series (2013–2014), which lead to a record deal with Def Jam Recordings. The label would release his debut studio albums, ''Remember My Name (album), Remember My Name'' (2015) and ''Lil Durk 2X'' (2016), before Durk departed Def Jam in 2018.
