Skylink (bus Service)
Skylink is the brand name for bus services that serve East Midlands Airport in Leicestershire. Services are presently operated by Kinchbus and trentbarton, both a part of Derbyshire-based Wellglade Group. History Nottingham City Transport previously operated the Skylink Nottingham service until 2012 when the service was replaced by a new Skylink service operated by trentbarton via Long Eaton, which also replaced the indigo service between Long Eaton and Loughborough via East Midlands Airport and Sutton Bonington that ran between 2002 and 2012. Following a local petition, an hourly extension service to Coalville via Shepshed was introduced in September 2015. Kinchbus have operated the Skylink service between Leicester and Derby since April 2009. The Mercedes-Benz Citaro is a single-decker, rigid or articulated bus manufactured by Mercedes-Benz/EvoBus. Introduced in 1997, the Citaro is available in a range of configurations, and is in widespread use throughout Europe and parts of Asia, with more than 55,000 produced by December 2019. History The first generation Citaro was launched in 1997, as a successor to the Mercedes-Benz O405. In 2005, an updated version of the Citaro to coincide with the introduction of Euro IV- (and later Euro V- and EEV-) compliant engines. Apart from minor technical alterations, mainly to accommodate the new generation of engines, the external design received a facelift to give the buses a less angular look, with internal panelling altered accordingly. Broadmarsh bus station is a bus station serving the city of Nottingham, England. The new bus station is situated in Nottingham City Centre adjacent to the former Broadmarsh Shopping Centre, underneath its multi-storey car park. It is bordered by Canal Street (A6008 road) and The bus station is away from Nottingham railway and tram stations. Diseworth
Diseworth is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Long Whatton and Diseworth, in theNorth West Leicestershire district, in the English county of Leicestershire. It is south of East Midlands Airport and off Junction 23A of the M1 motorway. A village of some 670 residents, it is located 14 km to the north-west of Loughborough and 2.5 km to the south-east of Castle Donington. The settlement is in the civil parish of Long Whatton and Diseworth, and lies within an undulating agricultural landscape and occupies a shallow valley created by the Diseworth Brook as it flows eastwards before becoming Long Whatton Brook and proceeding to its confluence with the River Soar. Long Whatton is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Long Whatton and Diseworth, in the North West Leicestershire district, in the English county of Leicestershire. It is south of East Midlands Airport, off Junctions 23 and 23A of the M1 motorway, and has easy access to Loughborough via the A6 and to Shepshed, Ashby-de-la-Zouch and Kegworth. A453
The A453 road was formerly the main trunk road connecting the English cities of Nottingham and Birmingham. However, the middle section of this mainly single-carriageway road has largely been downgraded to B roads or unclassified roads following the construction of the parallel M42- A42 link around 1990. The M42 was originally meant to pass further north than it does, and to join the M1 at Sandiacre in Derbyshire. The M42/A42 does not enter Derbyshire, but instead joins the M1 closer to the A453 junction at Kegworth. The A42 shadows the former A453 from Appleby Magna to Castle Donington. The road historically connected the East Midlands with the West Midlands. East Midlands Gateway
The East Midlands Gateway is a rail freight terminal and intermodal freight centre situated to the west of the village of Kegworth in the English East Midlands. It is operated by SEGRO and officially known as the SEGRO Logistics Park East Midlands Gateway (SLPEMG). It is located within the triangle formed by the cities of Derby (), Nottingham () and Leicester (). It has rail access from the Castle Donington line, road access from junction 24 of the M1 motorway, and lies immediately to the north of East Midlands Airport. It thus unites air, road, and rail freight in a central location. The gateway comprises purpose-built rail freight terminal, access roads and a number of warehouses and distribution centres, making this distribution hub one of the UK's first Dry port, inland ports.
