Skirt Lifter
A skirt lifter, also known as a dress lifter, skirt grip, dress suspender, hem-holder, page or porte-jupe, was a device for lifting a long skirt to avoid dirt or to facilitate movement. It clamped on to the hem and was attached to the belt by a cord, ribbon, or chain. The first skirt lifters date from around 1846 and they were most popular in the 1860s-1880s. Skirt
A skirt is the lower part of a dress or a separate outer garment that covers a person from the waist downwards. At its simplest, a skirt can be a draped garment made out of a single piece of fabric (such as pareos). However, most skirts are fitted to the body at the waist or hips and fuller below, with the fullness introduced by means of darts, gores, pleats, or panels. Modern skirts are usually made of light to mid-weight fabrics, such as denim, jersey, worsted, or poplin. Skirts of thin or clingy fabrics are often worn with slips to make the material of the skirt drape better and for modesty. In modern times, skirts are very commonly worn by women and girls. Some exceptions include the izaar, worn by many Muslim cultures, and the kilt, a traditional men's garment in Scotland, Ireland, and sometimes England. FIDM Museum
The FIDM Museum & Library, Inc. was founded in 1978 to serve the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) and the community. Since January 1999, the museum's operations have been separate from the Library and School in order to offer more specialized care and attention to the specific needs of a costume collection. Museum-trained personnel have also been added to the staff to support and aide any and all visitors that visit the different exhibits offered. Contents The museum is located on the ground floor of the Los Angeles campus of the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, and houses a collection of over 12,000 costumes, accessories and textiles from the 18th century through the present day, including film and theater costume. The FIDM Museum also houses the early Hollywood Costume Collection on loan from the City of Los Angeles, Department of Parks and Recreation. Penny Rose
Penny Rose is a British costume designer who has worked in the film industry since the 1970s. Rose has been nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Costume Design three times for the films ''Evita'' (1996), '' Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl'' (2003), and '' Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest'' (2006). Career Rose's costume design career began in the West End theatres of London, following time spent on various theatre projects as a teenager in Windsor. She studied stage management while attending the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Due to her fluency in Italian, she acquired a job as an assistant and buyer for the high fashion label Fiorucci in Milan, which introduced her to important people in the fashion and film industries. The Museum Of Curiosity
''The Museum of Curiosity'' is a comedy talk show on BBC Radio 4 that was first broadcast on 20 February 2008. It is hosted by John Lloyd (Professor of Ignorance at the University of Buckingham, and later at Solent University). He acts as the head of the (fictional) titular museum, while a panel of three guests – typically a comedian, an author and an academic – each donate to the museum an 'object' that fascinates them. The radio medium ensures that the suggested exhibits can be absolutely anything, limited only by the guests' imaginations. Tim Wonnacott
Timothy Wonnacott (born 12 March 1951) is an English chartered auctioneer, chartered surveyor, antiques expert, narrator, and a television presenter. He was previously a director of Sotheby's, one of the world's oldest auction houses. He is best known for having presented the BBC daytime programme '' Bargain Hunt'' from 2003 until 2015, and has been the narrator of '' Antiques Road Trip'' since it began in 2010.
