Edvin Laine
Edvin Laine (13 July 1905 – 18 November 1989) was a Finnish film director. Laine was born Bovellán. Laine directed a comedy '' Aaltoska orkaniseeraa'' and family film ''Sleeping Beauty'', both in 1949. '' The Unknown Soldier'', a film Laine directed in 1955 based on Väinö Linna's novel, was a big sensation in Finland. There have later been two other film adaptations of the same novel but Laine's version remains the best known. Laine also directed another film based on Väinö Linna's book, ''Here, Beneath the North Star'' (1968), which also was a successful movie in Finland. His 1958 film ''Sven Tuuva the Hero'' was entered into the 9th Berlin International Film Festival. ''Rose-Marie'' is an operetta-style musical with music by Rudolf Friml and Herbert Stothart, and book and lyrics by Otto Harbach and Oscar Hammerstein II. The story is set in the Canadian Rocky Mountains and concerns Rose-Marie La Flemme, a French Canadian girl who loves miner Jim Kenyon. When Jim falls under suspicion for murder, her brother Emile plans for Rose-Marie to marry Edward Hawley, a city man. The work premiered on Broadway at the Imperial Theatre on September 2, 1924, running for 557 performances. It was the longest-running Broadway musical of the 1920s until it was surpassed by ''The Student Prince'' (1926). It was then produced at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in London in 1925, enjoying another extraordinary run of 581 performances. It was filmed in 1928, in 1936 and again in 1954. The IV District, also known as Martti (Finnish; ''Martinsbacken'' in Swedish), is one of the central districts of Turku, Finland. It is located on the east side of the river Aura, between ''Tervahovinkatu'' in the west and ''Betaniankatu'' and ''Martinkatu'' in the east. Toivo Särkkä
Toivo Jalmari Särkkä (20 November 1890, Mikkeli – 9 February 1975, Helsinki), born Toivo Hjalmar Silén, was a Finnish film producer and director. He was CEO of the production company Suomen Filmiteollisuus. Before his career in filmmaking, Särkkä worked as a bank manager and chairman in Kotimainen Työ, an organization promoting Finnish work and products. After the death of Erkki Karu, founder and owner of Suomen Filmiteollisuus, Särkkä became the CEO thus producing 233 and directing 49 feature films. In 1965, when Finnish film industry was in difficulties due to the coming of television, Särkkä initiated bankruptcy of Suomen Filmiteollisuus. Films directed by Särkkä are e.g. ''Suomisen perhe'', ''Helmikuun manifesti'', ''Kulkurin valssi'' and ''Vaivaisukon morsian''. Särkkä married Russian-Lithuanian Margariitta Beljavsky in 1914. Kosti Klemelä
Kosti Klemelä (29 February 1920 – 26 March 2006) was a Finnish actor. He is best remembered for playing the role of Lt. Koskela in the Edvin Laine film ''The Unknown Soldier (1955 film), The Unknown Soldier'' (1955). In addition to his film career, he worked for the Finnish National Theatre until his retirement. He considered his theatrical career to be more important to him than his film career. He is buried in the Hietaniemi Cemetery in Helsinki.
