''Sitting on a Branch, Enjoying Myself'' ( sk, Sedím na konári a je mi dobre) is a 1989 Czechoslovak-West German comedy-drama film directed by Juraj Jakubisko. It was entered into the main competition at the 46th Venice International Film Festival. Synopsis A tragi-comedy about the end of World War II and the roll call of the communist regime. With this background you have a part-dream sequence story of the two main characters coming back from the war - comedian Pepe and front line soldier Prengel that become best friends after discovering gold together. By coincidence these two meet Ester who is coming back from a concentration camp and now love enters the story with this melancholic Jewish girl. Three homeless people are trying to fulfill their idea of happiness. They chose the wrong time period. Juraj Jakubisko
Juraj Jakubisko (born 30 April 1938) is a Slovak film director. He has directed fifteen feature films, between 1967 and 2008. He often takes the dual role of cinematographer, and is often also credited as a screenplay writer as he usually co-writes or writes the scripts of his movies. In 2000 he was named Best Slovak Director of the 20th century by film critics and journalists. His work is often described as magical realism. Career Before entering the film industry, Jakubisko taught still photography at a secondary school for applied arts in Bratislava, and worked for a television company in Košice. In 1960 he moved to Prague where he attended the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU), studying film direction under Václav Wasserman. He graduated in 1965 and began working with Alfréd Radok at the Laterna Magika theatre in Prague.
