Sir John Williams, 2nd Baronet, Of Eltham
Sir John Williams, 2nd Baronet, of Elham (24 November 1653 (baptised) – 28 April 1723), was an English politician, of Welsh parentage, who sat in the House of Commons from 1701 to 1705. Williams was the son of Sir Thomas Williams, 1st Baronet, who was the royal physician to King Charles II. Williams was baptised in Elham in 1653. He was educated in Canterbury and at Peterhouse, Cambridge, where he matriculated in 1670. He was knighted around 1675. The House of Commons of England was the lower house of the Parliament of England (which incorporated Wales) from its development in the 14th century to the union of England and Scotland in 1707, when it was replaced by the House of Commons of Great Britain after the 1707 Act of Union was passed in both the English and Scottish parliaments at the time. In 1801, with the union of Great Britain and Republic of Ireland, Ireland, that house was in turn replaced by the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. Origins The Parliament of England developed from the Magnum Concilium that advised the English monarch in medieval times. James Scudamore, 3rd Viscount Scudamore
James Scudamore, 3rd Viscount Scudamore (1684 – 2 December 1716), was an English landowner and Tory politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1705 to 1716. Scudamore was baptised on 15 July 1684, the second, but eldest surviving son of John Scudamore, 2nd Viscount Scudamore, and his wife Lady Frances Cecil, daughter of John Cecil, 4th Earl of Exeter. He matriculated at Gloucester Hall, Oxford in 1695 and was awarded DCL in 1712. He inherited the title Viscount Scudamore and the estate of Holme Lacy from his father in 1697. From 1698 to 1703, he travelled abroad in France, Italy, Holland, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. He married Frances Digby, daughter of Simon Digby, 4th Baron Digby on 7 March 1706. Sir Thomas Williams, 1st Baronet
Sir Thomas Williams, 1st Baronet (c. 1621 – 1712) was a Welsh medical doctor and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1675 to 1679. He was "Chymical Physician" to King Charles II. Early life Williams was the son of Thomas Williams, of Talyllyn, Breconshire, and his wife Mary Pare, daughter of John Pare of Poston, Herefordshire. Career He practised medicine in Kent and was admitted on 11 February 1660 as an Extra Licentiate of the College of Physicians, London. He was created M.D. at the University of Cambridge on 5 March 1669. He became Chymical Physician to Charles II on 19 June 1670, and was created a baronet of Eltham (a mistake for Elham, near Canterbury) on 12 November 1674. Henry Cornewall (died 1717)
Colonel Henry Cornewall (c. 1654 – 22 February 1717) was an English soldier, courtier and Member of Parliament. Early life He was born the eldest son of Edward Cornewall of Moccas Court and Frances ( Pye) Vaughan, daughter of Sir Walter Pye and the widow of Henry Vaughan of Moccas Court and Bredwardine. From his mother's first marriage, he had an elder half-brother, Roger Vaughan, a courtier and MP for Hereford. He succeeded his father in 1709. Career In 1685 he raised a regiment of foot, which later became the 9th (East Norfolk) Regiment of Foot. He resigned this command following the Glorious Revolution, as he personally opposed William III of England taking the throne. He was replaced by Colonel John Cunningham who led the regiment to Ireland to try and relieve the Siege of Derry. Sir William Powell, 1st Baronet (c. 1624 – 2 December 1680) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1660. Powell was born as William Hinson, the son of Thomas Hinson of Dubllin and his wife Anne Powell, daughter of Edward Powell of Fulham. His uncle, Sir Edward Powell, 1st Baronet of Pengethly, left him his estates on condition that he changed his name to Powell. He sat on the bench as a Justice of the Peace for Middlesex from 1650 to 1654 and Herefordshie from 1677 to his death and appointed High Sheriff of Herefordshire for 1657–58. In 1660, Powell was elected Member of Parliament for Herefordshire in the Convention Parliament.
