Sir John Delaval, 3rd Baronet
Sir John Delaval, 3rd Baronet (7 November 1654 – 4 June 1729) was an English politician. He was the fifth son of Sir Ralph Delaval, 1st Baronet and his wife Anne Leslie, daughter of the 1st Earl of Leven. Delaval succeeded his older brother Ralph as baronet in 1696. Delaval sat as Member of Parliament (MP) for Morpeth from 1701 until 1705. Subsequently, he represented Northumberland in the Parliament of England until 1707 and then in the Parliament of Great Britain until 1708. Because of financial problems, he had to sell the family's estates to his cousin Admiral George Delaval. Thomas Forster (of Adderstone)
Thomas Forster (1683 – October 1738), of Adderstone Hall, Northumberland, was an English landowner and Tory politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1708 to 1716. He served as a general of the Jacobite army in the 1715 Uprising and subsequently fled to France. Early life Forster was baptized on 29 March 1683, the eldest son of Thomas Forster (1659-1725) of Adderstone, MP for Northumberland from 1705 to 1708. His mother was Frances Forster, daughter of Sir William Forster of Bamburgh Castle. He was educated at Newcastle School, and was admitted at St John's College, Cambridge on 3 July 1700. In 1701, he inherited, with his aunt Dorothy Crew (wife of Lord Crew, Bishop of Durham) the estates of his uncle Ferdinando Forster, of Bamburgh and Blanchland. The estates had incurred substantial debts, and in 1704 the creditors instituted actions in Chancery to force the heirs to sell them. A baronet ( or ; abbreviated Bart or Bt) or the female equivalent, a baronetess (, , or ; abbreviation Btss), is the holder of a baronetcy, a hereditary title awarded by the British Crown. The title of baronet is mentioned as early as the 14th century, however in its current usage was created by James I of England in 1611 as a means of raising funds for the crown. A baronetcy is the only British hereditary honour that is not a peerage, with the exception of the Anglo-Irish Black Knights, White Knights, and Green Knights (of whom only the Green Knights are extant). Delaval Baronets
There have been two baronetcies created for people with the surname Delaval. The Delaval Baronetcy of Seaton in the County of Northumberland was created in the Baronetage of England on 29 June 1660 for Ralph Delaval, of Seaton. The latter was member of parliament for Northumberland and was succeeded by his oldest son. The second Baronet died without male issue and the baronetcy devolved to his younger brother. The third Baronet, Member of Parliament for Morpeth and Northumberland experienced financial problems which led to him selling the family estate at Seaton to his cousin Admiral George Delaval (1660–1723). The baronetcy was extinct or dormant on his death. Origins He was born Hugh Smithson, the son of Lansdale Smithson (b. 1682) of Langdale and Philadelphia Revely. General Algernon Seymour, 7th Duke of Somerset (11 November 16847 February 1750), styled Earl of Hertford until 1748, of Petworth House in Sussex, was a British Army officer and Whig politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1708 until 1722 when he was raised to the House of Lords as Baron Percy. Background Seymour was the only son of Charles Seymour, 6th Duke of Somerset, by his first wife, the heiress Lady Elizabeth Percy, deemed Baroness Percy in her own right, the only surviving child of Joceline Percy, 11th and last Earl of Northumberland. He set out on a Grand Tour at the age of 17, visiting Italy from 1701 to 1703 and Austria in 1705.
