Sir Andrew Agnew, 9th Baronet
Sir Andrew Noel Agnew, 9th Baronet, JP (14 August 1850 – 14 July 1928) was a British Liberal Unionist Member of Parliament. Succession Agnew was the son of Sir Andrew Agnew, 8th Baronet and Lady Mary Arabella Louisa Noel, and succeeded his father as 9th Baronet, of Lochnaw on the latter's death on 25 March 1892. On his own death in 1928 he was succeeded in the baronetcy by his nephew Fulque Agnew. Education He attended Windlesham House School, Harrow School and Trinity College, Cambridge. Career Agnew was commissioned a second lieutenant in the 1st Ayrshire and Galloway Artillery Volunteers on 28 February 1900, and rose to the rank of captain before he retired. He was Liberal Unionist Member of Parliament (MP) for Edinburgh South from 1900 to 1906. He was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Wigtownshire on 21 March 1904. Gowran (; ) is a town located on the eastern side of County Kilkenny, Ireland. The historic St. Mary's Collegiate Church is located in the centre of Gowran close to Gowran Castle. Gowran Park race course and Golf Course is located one km from the centre of Gowran. Gowran is located on the R448 regional road (former N9 national primary road) where it is crossed by the R702 regional road. History Gowran was a place of importance prior to the Norman invasion and a royal residence of the Kings of Ossory, who were sometimes recorded as the Kings of Gowran. Edward the Bruce with his army of Scots and Ulstermen took the town in 1316. A baronet ( or ; abbreviated Bart or Bt) or the female equivalent, a baronetess (, , or ; abbreviation Btss), is the holder of a baronetcy, a hereditary title awarded by the British Crown. Sir Fulque Melville Gerald Noel Agnew, 10th Baronet (6 October 1900, Bangalore, India – 28 August 1975, Mzuzu, Malawi) was the son of Major Charles Hamlyn Agnew (3rd son of Sir Andrew Agnew of Lochnaw, 8th Baronet, and Lady Louisa Noel or Agnew of Lochnaw, daughter of the 1st Earl of Gainsborough) and his wife Lillian Anne Wolfe Murray of Cringltie, daughter of General Sir James Wolfe Murray of Cringltie KCB, married on 30 June 1897 but they divorced in 1908. Succession He succeeded as 10th Baronet, of Lochnaw on the death of his uncle Sir Andrew Noel Agnew of Lochnaw, 9th Baronet, on 14 July 1928. He did not use the title in later life. On his death in 1975 he was succeeded in the baronetcy by his son Crispin Agnew. Arthur Dewar, Lord Dewar KC (14 March 1860 – 14 June 1917) was a British politician and judge who served as a Liberal Member of Parliament (MP) for Edinburgh South as well as Solicitor General for Scotland and later a Senator of the College of Justice. Life He was born in Perth, the fourth son of John Dewar, Sr. the distiller and founder of John Dewar & Sons. His brothers, Thomas and John, ran the family business.Obituary in ''The Times'' He was educated at Perth Academy and then at the University of Edinburgh, graduating in 1882. He was admitted to the Scottish Bar in 1885, and in 1892 was appointed the Advocate-Depute for the Glasgow circuit, a minor governmental post, which he held until 1895 when the Conservative Party came into power.
