Sinéad Millea
Sinéad Millea (born in Kilkenny) is a former camogie player for Kilkenny GAA, Kilkenny, winner of an Camogie All Stars Awards, All-Star award in Camogie All Stars Awards#2004, 2004 and two All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship, All Ireland medals. She was honoured by inclusion in the University of Limericks' Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. Family background Her father Joe Millea, Joe was a member of the Kilkenny team that won the Liam MacCarthy Cup in All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship 1969, 1969. Sinéad went to school at St Brigid's in Callan, County Kilkenny, Callan. Her sister is Tracey Millea. Career She played club camogie in Tipperary and Kilkenny, won three All-Ireland Minor Camogie Championship, All-Ireland Minor titles with Kilkenny and helped her county to the All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship, Senior title in 1991 and 1994. All-Ireland Minor Camogie Championship
The All-Ireland Minor Camogie Championship is a competition for under-18 teams in the women's field sport of camogie. Counties compete for the Síghle Nic an Ultaigh Cup. There are graded competitions at Minor B and Minor C level. History The competition was established in 1974 for under-16 teams. In 2006 the age limit was raised from 16 to 18 and a separate under-16 championship established. Championships are also held at Minor B and Minor C level. All Ireland Colleges Camogie Championship
The All-Ireland Colleges Camogie Championship is an Irish camogie tournament played each year to determine the national champion secondary school or second level college. Since 1969 it has been administered by the Secondary Education committee of the Camogie Association. The record holders are St Raphaels College, Loughrea, Co Galway with 8 senior titles in a row. The current holders of the cup are Seamount College, Kinvara. Seamount defeated near-neighbours St. Flannan's College in a thrilling final played at Gort GAA. The scoreline was 1-5 to 0-6. Graded Competitions There are graded competitions for colleges at three different levels. In the 2011 All-Ireland Senior B final Grennan College, Thomastown (4-10) defeated St Louis, Ballymena (3-3) in Trim. The 2008 National Camogie League is a competition in the women's team field sport of camogie was won by Kilkenny GAA#Camogie, Kilkenny, who defeated Galway GAA#Camogie, Galway in the final, played at Nowlan Park, Kilkenny. Arrangements Kilkenny were attempting to win to the League title for the first time since 1993, and on home soil, there was pressure on them to achieve that feat. Kilkenny had defeated then All-Ireland champions Wexford, 2-11 to 1-11, before travelling to Cork to overcome the rebels 0-8 to 1-4 on a wind- swept blustery day to qualify for a league final. The 1993 National Camogie League is a competition in the women's team field sport of camogie was won by Kilkenny, who defeated Cork in the final, played at Ballyragget. Arrangements The tournament was played with 15-a-side on an experimental basis, three years before the rules of camogie were changed to facilitate 15-a-side teams. National Camogie League
The National Camogie League, known for sponsorship reasons as the Very Ireland Camogie Leagues, is a competition in the Irish team sport of camogie, played exclusively by women. The competition is held in three divisions graded by ability. It was first played in 1976 for a trophy donated by Allied Irish Banks when Tipperary beat Wexford in a replayed final. Division Two (originally the National Junior League) was inaugurated in 1979 and won by Kildare. The first two National League competitions started in the autumn and finished in the spring of 1976–77 and 1977–78 respectively. Since then the competition has been completed within the calendar year. The 2001 final was not played until October because of the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak earlier in the year. The 1994 All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship was the high point of the 1994 season. The championship was won by Killkenny who defeated Wexford by a nine-point margin in the final. The match drew an attendance of 5,000. Background Angela Downey was coaxed out of retirement at the age of 37 by Kilkenny and her twin sister Ann Downey was named as captain and Kilkenny for the 1992 championship. The 1991 All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship was won by Kilkenny who defeated Cork by a seven-point margin in the final. The match drew an attendance of 3,024 including President Mary Robinson. Final Breda Holmes scored three goals for Kilkenny. Angela Downey’s ingenuity contributed to two of the goals, Marina Downey was the architect of the third. According to Kathryn Davis in the Irish Times: An emotional Angela Downey, who was beset by cramp in the final minute and who looked as if she would not actually make it up the steps to receive the O'Duffy Cup put it more succinctly when she said: “it was pure stubbornness. Ashbourne Cup
The Ashbourne Cup is an Irish camogie tournament played each year to determine the national champion university or third level college. The Ashbourne Cup is the highest division in inter-collegiate camogie. The competition features many of the current stars of the game and is sometimes known as the 'Olympics of Camogie' because of the disproportionate number of All Star and All-Ireland elite level players who participate each year Since 1972 it has been administered by thHigher Educationcommittee of the Camogie Association.
