Singshot
SingShot Media was founded by Ranah Edelin (CEO) and Niranjan Nagar (CTO) in January 2006 (they both were executives at Listen.com, the company behind the music service Rhapsody) and was a legal karaoke website designed to allow its users to choose from a vast selection of music then record their own versions that could be shared with anyone on the Web. Members used a microphone or webcam connected to a computer to record themselves along with the site's Flash-based karaoke player. The site allowed users to create singing contests, although usually not for monetary prizes, just for "bragging rights". However, on some occasions contests were sponsored. Members were allowed to rate other member's performances on a five star scale and could leave "feedback" on the performances. Rhapsody (online Music Service)
Napster is a music streaming service based in Seattle, Washington. Napster started as an audio search engine named Aladdin that was purchased by Listen.com in May 2001 and became the basis for its new streaming service, called Rhapsody, that launched in December of the same year. Based on the Open Music Model principles, Rhapsody was the first streaming on-demand music subscription service to offer unlimited access to a large library of digital music for a flat monthly fee. In August 2003, internet media behemoth RealNetworks, anticipating the launch of Apple's iTunes store, acquired Rhapsody. On April 6, 2010, Rhapsody relaunched as a standalone company, separate from former parent RealNetworks. Karaoke (; ; , clipped compound of Japanese ''kara'' "empty" and ''ōkesutora'' "orchestra") is a type of interactive entertainment usually offered in clubs and bars, where people sing along to recorded music using a microphone. The music is an instrumental version of a well-known popular song. Lyrics are usually displayed on a video screen, along with a moving symbol, changing colour, or music video images, to guide the singer.
