Singapore At The 2012 Summer Olympics
Singapore competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, from July 27 to August 12, 2012. This was the nation's fifteenth appearance at the Olympics, except for two different editions. Singapore was part of the Malaysian team at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, but did not attend at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, because of its support for the United States boycott. The Singapore National Olympic Council sent a total of 23 athletes to the Games, 8 men and 15 women, to compete in 9 sports. For the second time in its Olympic history, Singapore was represented by more female than male athletes. Seven Singaporean athletes had competed in Beijing, including swimmer Tao Li, who finished fifth in the women's butterfly event. Among the sports played by the athletes, Singapore also marked its Olympic debut in sprint canoeing and artistic gymnastics. Singapore National Olympic Council
The Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) is the National Olympic Committee and National Paralympic Committee for the Republic of Singapore. It was founded in 1947 as the Singapore Olympic and Sports Council (SOSC) before renaming to its current iteration in 1970. The SNOC is responsible for supporting, entering and overseeing Team Singapore for the Olympic Games, Youth Olympic Games, Winter Olympic Games, Winter Youth Olympic Games, SEA Games, Asian Games, Asian Youth Games and the Commonwealth Games. Yeo Foo Ee Gary
Yeo Foo Ee Gary (born 30 August 1986) is a former track and field sprint athlete who competes internationally for Singapore. Yeo is a 5-time SEA Games Silver medalist and the 2012 ASEAN University Games 100m Champion. Yeo also represented Singapore in athletics at the 2012 London Olympics, as well as the 2010 and 2014 Asian Games. He was the flag bearer for Singapore at the 2014 Asian Games Yeo won the silver medal in the Men's 100 metres at the 2011 Southeast Asian Games. In 2012, Yeo represented Singapore at the 2012 Summer Olympics. In the men's 100m preliminary round, he broke his personal best timing of 10.62secs to 10.57secs to qualify for Round 1. Shinta Mulia Sari (born 14 June 1988) is an Indonesian-born Singaporean former badminton player. She represented Singapore in the 2012 Summer Olympics, in the women's doubles with Yao Lei. She and Yao reached the quarter-finals of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, and were part of the Singaporean mixed team that won the bronze medal. Cheng Shao-chieh (; born 4 January 1986) is a badminton player from Taiwan. Cheng played badminton at the 2004 Summer Olympics for the Republic of China as Chinese Taipei. In women's singles, she defeated Ling Wan Ting of Hong Kong and Jun Jae-youn of South Korea in the first two rounds. In the quarterfinals, Cheng lost to Gong Ruina of China 3–11, 3–11. Later that year, she played in the 2004 World Junior Championships, held in Richmond, Canada, where she won the gold title in girls' singles. Victoria "Vicky" Na (born 23 March 1991) is an Australian badminton player. She is of Indonesian and Thai descent. She has won an Australian age national championship and participated in several international badminton competitions. Gu Juan
Gu Juan (; born 26 May 1990) is a Chinese-born Singaporean badminton player who competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Early life Gu followed her father to Nanjing when she was six years old. Due to poor body constitution, her father sent her to a badminton school to build her up. Gu represented Nanjing and won a competition. She was subsequently invited to join the Beijing badminton team but withdrew after not being used to the weather conditions. Gu then further represented Nanjing in the Jiangsu sports competition and won the girls doubles and mixed doubles. Derek Wong (born Wong Zi Liang, traditional Chinese: 黃梓良, 13 January 1989) is a retired Singaporean badminton player. Wong is a two-time Olympian, who took part at the 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics, where he was flag bearer in the latter's Parade of Nations. Early life Wong was born on 13 January 1989, in Singapore, to parents Wong Shoon Keat and Irene Lee. He grew up in a badminton-loving family with three other brothers (Shawn, Jamie and Jason). Both his parents are former national champions and they own a badminton shop at the old Singapore Badminton Hall.
