Basketball Association Of Singapore
The Basketball Association of Singapore (BAS) is the governing body of basketball in Singapore. History Basketball was introduced to Singapore as early as 1925 and was played in schools. The Singapore Basketball and Volleyball Association was established in 1934 to further promote the sport and the organization was responsible for organizing the Malaysia and Singapore Basketball Championship. The association was later replaced in 1939 by the Chinese Sports Improvement Council, which was considered by the Basketball Association of Singapore to be the first instance of its organization. After the resolution of the World War II in 1946 which affected the promotion of basketball, Goh Chye Hin set up the Singapore Amateur Basketball Association (SABA). It's men's national team participated in the 1956 Summer Olympics. SABA became a member of FIBA Asia in 1961 and its men's team began participating in the ABC Championship (now FIBA Asia Cup). FIBA Under-19 World Championship
The FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup (formerly FIBA Under-19 World Championship) is the under-19 men's world basketball championship organised by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). From its inauguration in 1979, until 2007, it was held every four years. Since 2007, it has been held biennially. The current champions are the United States, who defeated France in 2021. The FIBA Under-18 Asian Championship refers to the under-18 basketball championship for the International Basketball Federation's FIBA Asia zone. 2016 SEABA Under-18 Championship
The 2016 in sports, 2016 SEABA Under-18 Championship was the qualifying tournament for Southeast Asia Basketball Association at the 2016 FIBA Asia Under-18 Championship. The tournament was the tenth edition and took place in Medan, Indonesia from 23 April to 28 April 2016. Due to the Philippines' top five finish at the 2014 FIBA Asia Under-18 Championship, the subzone was allotted another spot to be contested, totaling to three spots for Southeast Asia Basketball Association, SEABA in the Asian tournament. Singapore Men's National Basketball Team
The Singapore men's national basketball team is the national team for Singapore in basketball. It is managed by the ''Basketball Association of Singapore'' (BAS), formerly the Singapore Amateur Basketball Association (SABA). At the Asian Basketball Championship, the country had its greatest success between 1971 and 1993 when it qualified for 12 straight events. Since 2001, the team has been one of the contenders at the Southeast Asian Basketball Championship. There, the team has won two bronze medals to date. In 1956, the team qualified for the Summer Olympics where it finished ahead of Asian rivals South Korea and Thailand.
