''Sing Along to Songs You Don't Know'' is the fifth full-length studio album by Icelandic group múm, released in August 2009. The album was first made available to purchase for download on 17 August 2009, through the web site Gogoyoko, with 10 percent of the proceeds being donated to the non-governmental organisation Refugees United. The full European release followed on 24 August, and the North American on 22 September. As indicated by the title, some of the album's songs partly and informally rework melodies and lyrics from known pop songs. Thus, "If I Were a Fish" includes references to the Tim Hardin song " If I Were a Carpenter" and "Sing Along" includes a melody from "The World Laughs On", a song by Danish musician Otto Brandenburg, popularized in an Icelandic version in 1960 entitled "Ég er kominn heim "Ég er kominn heim" is a song performed by the Icelandic singer Óðinn Valdimarsson and the band K.K. sextettinn. Múm
Múm (stylized in lowercase) () is an Icelandic indietronica band whose music is characterized by soft vocals, electronic glitch beats and effects, and a variety of traditional and unconventional instruments. History The band was formed in 1997 by original members Gunnar Örn Tynes and Örvar Þóreyjarson Smárason, who were joined by twin sisters Gyða and Kristín Anna Valtýsdóttir. According to Kristín, the band's name was not intended to mean anything. Gyða left the band to return to her studies after the release of ''Finally We Are No One''. In early 2006, Kristín also left the band, although it was not officially announced until 23 November of that year. "Ég er kominn heim" is a song performed by the Icelandic singer Óðinn Valdimarsson and the band K.K. sextettinn. The song is originally by Hungarian composer Emmerich Kálmán and the lyrics were written by Jón Sigurðsson. It was released in 1960 on the album ''Óðinn''. Otto Brandenburg
Otto Herman Max Brandenburg (4 September 1934 – 1 March 2007) was a Danish musician, singer and actor. Career Music and Theatre He debuted in 1955 in the ensemble Four Jacks, but quickly became a soloist producing Danish rock. He then adapted his pop songs to folk music and jazz and became a popular actor. Brandenburg released records in Sweden and Germany under the name "Ole Brandenburg". In 1960, he unsuccessfully participated in the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix with the song "To Lys På Et Bord" (two lights on one board). If I Were A Carpenter (song)
"If I Were a Carpenter" is a folk song written by Tim Hardin in the 1960s, and re-recorded with commercial success by various artists including Bobby Darin, The Four Tops and Johnny Cash. Hardin's own recording of the piece appeared on his 1967 album ''Tim Hardin 2''. It was one of two songs from that release (the other being "Misty Roses") performed by Hardin at Woodstock in 1969. The song, believed by some to be about male romantic insecurity, is rumored to have been inspired by his love for actress Susan Morss, as well as the construction of Hardin's recording studio (in the home of Lenny Bruce).
