Simón De Arocha
Simón de Arocha (1731–1796) was a Tejano militia commander and alcalde (a municipal magistrate who had both judicial and administrative functions) of San Antonio de Béxar (1770 and 1787). Like his father, who had been city clerk and public notary, Simón and his brothers became leaders in the province. Biography Simón de Arocha was born in San Antonio de Béxar, Texas, in October, 1731. His parents, Francisco de Arocha and Juana Curbelo, came from La Palma, one of the Canary Islands of Spain. They had arrived at San Antonio in March of the same year with a group of Canarian people, Canarian settlers. Simón was the oldest of fifteen children. His father held important administrative positions in San Antonio. In his youth, Simón joined the local militia, and rose through the ranks to become its commander with the rank of lieutenant general. The Trinity River is a river, the longest with a watershed entirely within the U.S. state of Texas. It rises in extreme northern Texas, a few miles south of the Red River. The San Marcos River rises from the San Marcos Springs, the location of Aquarena Springs, in San Marcos, Texas. The springs are home to several threatened or endangered species, including the Texas blind salamander, fountain darter, and Texas wild rice. The river is a popular recreational area, and is frequented for tubing, canoeing, swimming, and fishing. Floresville is a city in Wilson County, Texas, United States. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the population was at 7,203 at the 2020 Census. It is the county seat of Wilson County. Juan Agustín Morfi was a Franciscan monk, born in Asturias, Spain, in 1735, who died in Mexico, New Spain, in 1783. He is considered the most important chronicler and historian of the New Philippines; Mariano Errasti ranks Morfi among the most prodigious figures in five centuries of Franciscan work in America. Early life Born in Oviedo, his exact date of birth is not known, but his admission document into the Convento Grande de San Francisco in Mexico in 1760 records he was 25 at the time, indicating a birth date around 1735. His parents were Juan Morfi, an Irishman, and Maria Antonia Cortina, a Spaniard. He had siblings, but nothing else is known of them with certainty. He arrived in America between 1755 and 1756.
