Alf Wilhelm Lundberg
Alf Wilhelm Lundberg (born 8 May 1979 in Haugesund, Norway) is a Norwegian Jazz musician (guitar and piano) and composer. Career Lundberg studied music on the Jazz program at Trondheim Musikkonsevatorium, where he earned specialization in arranging and composition. In 2003 Lundberg was awarded the first prize at the "Umbria Jazz Clinics" in Italia as guitarist in a strong competition. He has subsequently also studied guitar under the guidance of Adam Rogers in New York and Nelson Veras in Paris. Lundberg has toured England, Poland, Sweden, Finland, Italy and France with bands "All Strings Trio", "Faces" and "Kofi/Makowski Quartet", and played on some of the biggest jazz festivals in Europe, like Kongsberg Jazzfestival, London Jazz Festival and Umbria Jazz. Christina Bjordal
Christina Elisabeth Nesse Bjordal (born 25 September 1980 in Haugesund, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz singer. Career Bjordal let out her debut album ''Where Dreams Begin'', within Christina Bjordal Band in 2003. Two years later she signed up with Universal Music, which resulted in a new solo album ''Brighter Days'' (2006). On the latest solo release ''Warrior of Light'' (2009) Bjordal is joined by a cream team of musicians, among them Bugge Wesseltoft, Nils Petter Molvær, Mathias Eick, Bendik Hofseth and Nils-Olav Johansen. During the last couple of years she has established her name in the Norwegian vocal jazz genre. They were granted great reviews. She puts her heart into the album with her own lyrics and melodies. Fredrik Luhr Dietrichson
Fredrik Luhr Dietrichson (born 5 February 1988 in Haugesund, Norway) is a Norwegian Upright bassist. Career Dietrichson holds a Bachelor's degree in Music Performance by the Jazz program at Trondheim Musikkonsevatorium, where he and some fellow students started the trio "Moskus" including Anja Lauvdal (piano) & Hans Hulbækmo (drums). They won the debutant award by the label Grappa (2011), and was a finalist in this year "JazzIntro". Julius Lind
Julius Lind (born 13 September 1977) is a Norwegian jazz and rock bassist. Career Lind took his education at the Jazz program at Trondheim Musikkonsevatorium, and play within the bands "The Gin and tonic youth", "Ape club", "Action&Tension&Space" and "Blow". Lind also played double bass within the Norwegian rockabilly band "Rex Rudi" (2000–08). He has also played within "Girl from Saskatoon", and in 2010 he appeared within his own Julius Lind Quartet on gigs at clubs like "Herr Nilsen". Sigurd Ulveseth
Sigurd Ulveseth (born 13 July 1953) is a Norwegian jazz musician (Upright bass) and Orchestra leader, known from a number of album releases. Career Ulveseth was born in Bergen. With his own quartet, he has released three albums. The band consists of Adam Nussbaum (drums), Knut Riisnæs (saxophone), and Dag Arnesen (piano). He is also part of "Marit Sandvik Band", the band "SWAP" with Jan Gunnar Hoff, "North West Quartet" with Frode Nymo among others. He has recorded with Bergen musicians Dag Arnesen, Frank Jakobsen, Tore Faye, Knut Kristiansen, Ole Jacob Hystad, Jan Kåre Hystad and Merethe Mikkelsen. Marte Maaland Eberson
Marte Maaland Eberson is a Norwegian keyboardist and composer, known from bands including Morning Has Occurred and Highasakite. She is the daughter of the guitarist Jon Eberson. Career Eberson was born in Oslo, and obtained her formal musical education from the Music program at Foss videregående skole, "Sund Folkehøgskole", followed by a bachelor's degree from the Jazz program at Griegakademiet ( UiB) in Bergen. She is involved in many different bands and various musical contexts, most recently with the band Eberson Funk Ensemble, a band including her guitarist father Jon Eberson, Pål Thowsen, Sigurd Hole and Kim Erik Pedersen at Victoria, the Norwegian National Jazz Scene in Oslo 2013. Staffan William-Olsson
Staffan William-Olsson (born 13 December 1959) is a Swedish jazz guitarist in the band The Real Thing who has worked with Bob Berg, Lee Konitz, and Palle Mikkelborg. Career He played piano, guitar and drums already at the age of 7, and studied classical piano with a jazz-oriented teacher. Eventually he was oriented towards the guitar, with the blues and rock music as main sources of influence (Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin as main models). When he discovered jazz-rock, Weather Report, John McLaughlin and Allan Holdsworth among others became the new sources of inspiration. George Benson's record ''Bad Benson'' was a turning point, it opened up his ears for the clean, undistorted guitar sound, and guitarists like Pat Martino was a great influence. Olav Dale
Olav Dale (30 October 1958 – 10 October 2014) was a Norwegian composer, orchestra leader and jazz saxophonist. In addition to saxophone he played other woodwinds. He received little formal education in music, but he completed studies at the Voss Folk High School and the Toneheim Folk High School (1976–78). Biography After the debut at Vossajazz (1974) with the ''Voss Storband'', Dale recorded with Bergen-based orchestras like the Bergen Blues Band (1975–84), Bergen Big Band with eg Knut Kristiansen's ''Monk Moods'' (1980), and with various multi-national orchestras like 'Son Mu' and 'The Gambian/Norwegian Friendship Orchestra'. He also played the winds on several releases with Dag Arnesen, such as 'Ny Bris' and 'Son Mu', and in the Oslo based bands like: 'E'Olen', Oslo 13 and 'Lille Frøen Saxofonkvartett'. Bodil Niska
Bodil Aileen Niska (born 21 August 1954 in Vadsø, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz saxophonist known for her recordings of jazz standards. Career Raised in Hammerfest ,she was taught music by her father, the accordion player Aksel Niska, and studied under the guidance of Kjell Bartholdsen, and ran the jazz club "Montenegro" (1979–89). After moving southward in Norway in 1990, Niska collaborated within the trio "Girl Talk" from 1992, the other members being Tine Asmundsen (double bass) and Elizabeth Walker. They recorded the album ''Talkin' Jazz'' (1996). She formed the Bodil Niska Quartet, including Per Husby (piano), Stig Hvalryg (bass) and Roger Johansen (drums), at the Oslo Jazz Festival in 2005. Dag Arnesen
Dag Syver Arnesen (born 3 May 1950) is a Norwegian jazz pianist with a series of album releases. Career Arnesen was born in Bergen, and studied classical piano under Jiri Hlinka at the Bergen Music Conservatory and got a commitment by Den Nationale Scene. Eventually he went to jazz and played in the 1970s with the Arvid Genius' orchestra, and led his own Trios, Quartets and Septetter og 13'tets. There were several records under his own name and he is still in the Bergen Big Band. Arnesen has also lived in Oslo and played in the jazz bands Søyr, Orleysa, various groups led by the late international Norwegian guitarist Thorgeir Stubø, vocalist Susanne Fuhr, saxophonists Knut Riisnæs and Odd Riisnæs and orchestra leader Kjell Karlsen. Svein Olav Herstad
Svein Olav Herstad (born 7 July 1969 in Odda, Norway) is a jazz pianist, known from his own bands and several recordings with musicians like Sonny Simmons, Jan Erik Kongshaug, Nils-Olav Johansen, Harald Johnsen, and Per Oddvar Johansen. Career Herstad studied music at Musikkskolen in Haugesund, and is a graduate from the Jazz program at Trondheim Musikkonsevatorium, (1990–93). He started the band Svein Olav Herstad trio during his studies in Trondheim. With different lineups the band has released a series of albums, performing Herstad's own compositions. After moving to Oslo (1996–2001) he played within Jan Erik Kongshaug's quartet on two albums (1998, 2003). Living in Haugesund from 2001, he has been engaged with the festival Sildajazz, as well as being a part of the Christina Bjordal Band. Marius Neset
Marius Søfteland Neset (born 2 January 1985 in Os, Hordaland) is a Norwegian jazz musician (saxophone) living in Copenhagen. He is known from collaborations within the jazz bands "People Are Machines", "Kaktusch", "JazzKamikaze" and Django Bates projects "StoRMChaser" big band and " Human Chain". He is the son of music teachers guitarist Terje Neset (b. 1959) and pianist Anne Leni Søfteland Sæbø (b. 1961), and the brother of the vocalist Anna Søfteland Neset (b. 1987) flautist Ingrid Søfteland Neset (b. 1992). Career Neset holds a Master's degree at the Copenhagen Rhythmic Music Conservatory 2008, and finished Soloist studies under the guidance of Django Bates among others, at the same place in 2010.
