Signs Of Life (instrumental)
"Signs of Life" is the opening track on ''A Momentary Lapse of Reason'', the first Pink Floyd album headed by David Gilmour, in the absence of ex-member Roger Waters. Music It is an instrumental piece, the only words being the electronically processed voice of drummer Nick Mason, who can briefly be heard reciting two verses of an unknown poem. To open the track, producer Bob Ezrin recorded the sound of David Gilmour's boatman, Langley Iddins, rowing across the Thames. The screen film used to accompany the piece during concert performances featured Iddins rowing through Grantchester Meadows. The track is Pink Floyd's first instrumental piece (excluding the live-only " The Last Few Bricks") since 1973's "Any Colour You Like", from ''The Dark Side of the Moon''. Its roots go back to the 1970s. The song segues directly into " Learning to Fly". "Signs of Life" ends on an E minor chord, while "Learning to Fly" opens with the relative major G major. Any Colour You Like
"Any Colour You Like" is the eighth track on the English band Pink Floyd's 1973 album, ''The Dark Side of the Moon''. It is an instrumental written by David Gilmour, Richard Wright and Nick Mason. Composition The piece itself has no lyrics and consists of a synthesised tune which segues into a guitar solo (some scat vocals are added later; these were more prominent in live versions but are still audible in the studio recording). It is approximately three minutes, 25 seconds in length. The piece used advanced effects for the time both in the keyboard and the guitar. Richard Wright used a VCS 3 synthesizer which was fed through a long tape loop to create the rising and falling keyboard solo. David Gilmour used two guitars with the Uni-Vibe guitar effect to create the harmonizing guitar solo for the rest of the work. Jon Carin (born October 21, 1964) is a musician, singer, songwriter and producer who has been a longtime collaborator with the bands Pink Floyd and The Who, and the solo careers of David Gilmour and Roger Waters, Pete Townshend, Eddie Vedder, Kate Bush, and Richard Butler. Biography As a teenager, Jon Carin started his professional musical career with the band Industry as their lead singer, keyboardist and songwriter. During his time with the band, they had a hit single with " State of the Nation" in 1984, being followed by the album ''Stranger to Stranger''. In 1985, he was asked by Industry's producer, Rhett Davies, to work with Bryan Ferry for his '' Boys and Girls'' album. Kurzweil Music Systems is an American company that produces electronic musical instruments. It was founded in 1982 by Stevie Wonder (musician), Ray Kurzweil (innovator) and Bruce Cichowlas (software developer). Richard Wright (musician)
Richard William Wright (28 July 1943 – 15 September 2008) was an English musician who was a co-founder of the progressive rock band Pink Floyd. He played keyboards and sang, appearing on almost every Pink Floyd album and performing on all their tours. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 as a member of Pink Floyd. Wright grew up in Hatch End, Middlesex and met future Pink Floyd bandmates Roger Waters and Nick Mason while studying architecture at the Regent Street Polytechnic, London. After being joined by frontman and songwriter Syd Barrett, the group found commercial success in 1967. Barrett was replaced by David Gilmour in 1968, who, along with Waters and Wright, took over songwriting. It was recorded over five nights at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York, in August 1988 and mixed at Abbey Road Studios in September 1988. It was released on 22 November 1988, through EMI Records in the United Kingdom and Columbia Records in the United States. The album was remixed, restored and reissued in December 2019 for '' The Later Years 1987–2019'' box set. This version included songs that were not present on the original release. In November 2020, it was given a standalone release. Release and reissue The album was released in 1988 as a double LP, double cassette, and a double CD, each format containing a slightly different track listing. ''Delicate Sound of Thunder'' is a concert film by Pink Floyd, filmed during their ''A Momentary Lapse of Reason Tour'' from 19 August 1988 to 23 August 1988 at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York, with some additional footage from 21–22 June 1988 at the Place d'Armes of the Château de Versailles, Versailles, France. It was initially released on VHS, Video CD and Laserdisc formats. The film was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Long Form Music Video at the 32nd Annual Grammy Awards. The film was reissued on DVD and Blu-ray in 2019 as part of '' The Later Years 1987–2019'' box set. This version was fully re-edited, remastered and restored from the original 35 mm film, and featured the fully remixed audio from the 2019 CD album. Relative Major
In music, relative keys are the major and minor scales that have the same key signatures (enharmonically equivalent), meaning that they share all the same notes but are arranged in a different order of whole steps and half steps. A pair of major and minor scales sharing the same key signature are said to be in a relative relationship. The relative minor of a particular major key, or the relative major of a minor key, is the key which has the same key signature but a different tonic. (This is as opposed to ''parallel'' minor or major, which shares the same tonic.)
