Siege Of Namwon
The siege of Namwon was a military engagement that occurred from 23 September to 26 September 1597. It ended in Japanese victory. Background Ukita Hideie marched on Namweon with around 49,600 soldiers on 11 September 1597. They arrived on 23 September. Namweon was garrisoned by 3,000 Ming soldiers and 1,000 Koreans under Yang Yuan and I Boknam. Battle The Japanese began by sending 100 soldiers to test the fort's defenses. On 24 September, the Japanese filled the trench with straw and earth. Then they took shelter in the burned out houses in the city. On 25 September, the Japanese asked the defenders to surrender, but they refused. On the night of 26 September, the Japanese bombarded Namweon for two hours while their men climbed the walls and used fresh straw to create a ramp to the top. The Imjin River ( in South Korea) or Rimjin River ( in North Korea) is the 7th largest river in Korea. Ming Army
The military of the Ming dynasty was the military apparatus of China from 1368 to 1644. It was founded in 1368 during the Red Turban Rebellion by the Ming founder Zhu Yuanzhang. The military was initially organised along largely hereditary lines and soldiers were meant to serve in self-sufficient agricultural communities. They were grouped into guards (''wei'') and battalions (''suo''), otherwise known as the wei-suo system. Jeonju () is the 16th largest city in South Korea and the capital of North Jeolla Province. It is both urban and rural due to the closeness of Wanju County which almost entirely surrounds Jeonju (Wanju County has many residents who work in Jeonju). I Boknam
Yi Bok-nam (; June 28, 1555 – August 16, 1597) was a Korean naval commander and politician of the Joseon Dynasty. He passed the military examination and attained the position of ''Byeongmajeoldosa'' (병마절도사, 兵馬節度使) for Jeolla Province. He served against the Japanese navy during the Imjin war. His courtesy name was Subo (수보, 綏甫). Life In 1588, Yi passed the military examination (무과; 武科). He is famed for his victories at the Battle of Woongchi and Ahndeokwon in 1592. He was killed on April 18, 1597 at the Siege of Namwon, aged 43. The royal court eventually bestowed various honors upon him, including a posthumous title of ''Chungjanggong'' (충장공, 忠壯公, Loyal Duke of brave), an enrollment as a ''Seonmu Wonjong Gongsin'' (선무원종공신, 宣武原從功臣), and two posthumous offices, '' Jwachanseong'' (좌찬성, 左讚成, Left Vice Prime Minister).
