Shugart Associates
Shugart Associates (later Shugart Corporation) was a computer peripheral manufacturer that dominated the floppy disk drive market in the late 1970s and is famous for introducing the -inch "Minifloppy" floppy disk drive. In 1979 it was one of the first companies to introduce a hard disk drive form factor compatible with a floppy disk drive, the SA1000 form factor compatible with the 8-inch floppy drive form factor. Founded in 1973, Shugart Associates was purchased in 1977 by Xerox, which then exited the business in 1985 and 1986, selling the brand name and the 8-inch floppy product line (in March 1986) to Narlinger Group, which ultimately ceased operations circa 1991. Alan Shugart
Alan Field Shugart (September 27, 1930 – December 12, 2006) was an American engineer, entrepreneur and business executive whose career defined the modern computer disk drive industry. Personal history Born in Los Angeles, he graduated from the University of Redlands, receiving a degree in engineering physics. Shugart was the father of three children: Joanne Shugart (1951-1954), Christopher D. Shugart (b. 1953) and Teri L.K. Shugart (b. 1955). Shugart was married to Esther Marrs (née Bell), the mother of his three children, from 1951 until 1973. He was married to Rita Shugart (née Kennedy) from 1981 until his death. Shugart died on December 12, 2006 in Monterey, California of complications from heart surgery he had undergone six weeks earlier. Career He began his career in 1951 as a field engineer at IBM. Clyde Shugart
Clyde Earl Shugart (December 7, 1916 – July 2, 2009) was an American football guard in the National Football League (NFL) for the Washington Redskins. He played college football at Iowa State University and was drafted in the seventeenth round of the 1939 NFL Draft. Early life Shugart was born in Ames, Iowa and attended Ames High School. During his high school football career, he earned first-team all-state honors and was named as "the finest prep lineman in the state" by the Des Moines Register. College career Shugart then attended and played college football at Iowa State University, where he was a member of one of Iowa State's best football teams in school history. During his senior season, he played right tackle with All-American guard Ed Bock on the 1938 "Cyclone Eleven" squad that produced a 7-1-1 record for coach Jim Yeager. Shugart earned all-Big Six Conference honors and received All-America board recognition, playing all but 20 minutes of the entire season. ...

Kenneth Shugart
Kenneth Laverne Shugart Jr. (November 11, 1925 – June 19, 1985) was a United States Navy rear admiral who served in two wars. Prior to his service, Shugart was an All-American college basketball player at the United States Naval Academy. Shugart hailed from Cheyenne, Wyoming and joined the coach Ben Carnevale and the Navy Midshipmen as a swingman after a successful three-sport athletic career at Cheyenne High School. During the 1946–47 season, Shugart served as team captain and set academy scoring marks for a single-game (29 points) and a season (255), both since eclipsed. The Midshipmen also qualified for their first NCAA Tournament, losing to eventual champion Holy Cross in the first round. At the close of the season, Shugart was recognized as a second-team All-American by the Helms Athletic Foundation. Matthew Søberg Shugart is an American political scientist. He is a Distinguished Professor of political science at the University of California, Davis. He is also an Affiliated Professor at the University of Haifa. Shugart specializes in electoral systems, party systems, and the design of political institutions, primarily through empirical studies of political systems across large numbers of countries. Shugart is also an orchardist, and runs the ''Fruits and Votes'' blog on electoral systems and fruit growing.
