Shrines (Armand Hammer Album)
''Shrines'' is the fourth studio album by American hip hop group Armand Hammer. It was released via Backwoodz Studioz in 2020. The album's cover is a photograph of a NYPD police officer about to tranquilize and capture the tiger Ming of Harlem. Background Billy Woods and Elucid toured Europe as Armand Hammer in 2019. While in Edinburgh, they started writing a song titled "Bitter Cassava" and made demos. They recorded the song after they got back to New York City. Once a few things were figured out, they started work on ''Shrines''. Critical reception Eden Tizard of '' The Quietus'' stated that "''Shrines'' sees a new kind of clarity takes shape, a departure from 2018's monolithic ''Paraffin''." He added: "Where production there was thick and volatile like boiled tar, ''Shrines'' is comparatively spacious, the density of the bars even more pronounced." Armand Hammer is an American hip hop duo from New York City. It consists of Billy Woods and Elucid. History In September 2013, Armand Hammer released a mixtape, ''Half Measures''. It was produced by Steel Tipped Dove, Blockhead, Uncommon Nasa, and Small Pro, among others. In October that year, the duo released the first studio album, ''Race Music'', which was produced by the likes of Steel Tipped Dove, Marmaduke, Willie Green, and Blue Sky Black Death. Chaz Hall, better known by his stage name Elucid (often stylized as E L U C I D), is an American rapper and record producer from New York City. He has been a member of Armand Hammer, Cult Favorite, Lessondary, Nostrum Grocers, and Small Bills. Early life Elucid was born Chaz Hall in Jamaica, Queens. Camae Ayewa, better known by her stage name Moor Mother, is an American poet, musician, and activist from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is one half of the collective Black Quantum Futurism, along with Rasheedah Phillips, and co-leads the groups Irreversible Entanglements and 700 Bliss. Early life and career Ayewa was born in Aberdeen, Maryland, where she grew up in a public housing project. She moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to study photography at the Art Institute. Rory Allen Philip Ferreira (born February 3, 1992), better known by his stage name R.A.P. Ferreira, formerly Milo (often stylized as milo) and Scallops Hotel, is an American rapper and producer from Kenosha, Wisconsin. Ferreira received modest popularity and a cult fanbase following the release of his first two projects, ''I Wish My Brother Rob Was Here'' and ''Milo Takes Baths''.
