''Showcase'' is a compilation album by American rock and roll singer Buddy Holly. The album was released as an LP record in both mono and stereo formats in May 1964 (see 1964 in music). ''Showcase'' was Buddy Holly's fourth posthumously released album and the third album to feature previously unreleased material. The original recordings were overdubbed by the Fireballs in 1963. The album was released on CD for the first time in 1992 by Castle Communications in the UK. Buddy Holly
Charles Hardin Holley (September 7, 1936 – February 3, 1959), known as Buddy Holly, was an American singer and songwriter who was a central and pioneering figure of mid-1950s rock and roll. He was born to a musical family in Lubbock, Texas during the Great Depression, and learned to play guitar and sing alongside his siblings. His style was influenced by gospel music, country music, and rhythm and blues acts, which he performed in Lubbock with his friends from high school. He made his first appearance on local television in 1952, and the following year he formed the group "Buddy and Bob" with his friend Bob Montgomery. In 1955, after opening for Elvis Presley, he decided to pursue a career in music. He opened for Presley three times that year; his band's style shifted from country and western to entirely rock and roll. Gone (Ferlin Husky Song)
"Gone" is a 1957 single by Ferlin Husky written by Smokey Rogers. The song was Ferlin Husky's second No. 1 on the country chart, where it stayed at the top for ten weeks with a total of 27 weeks on the charts. The vocal backing on the song was provided by the Jordanaires with soprano Millie Kirkham. "Gone" also crossed over to the Hot 100 peaking at No. 4. Selling over one million copies, 'Gone" was awarded a gold disc. Recorded in Nashville at Bradley's Quonset Hut Studio, the recording is widely regarded as the first example of the Nashville Sound production approach. "Love's Made a Fool of You" is a song co-written and originally performed by Buddy Holly. It was later re-recorded by Sonny Curtis and the Crickets, with the lead vocal by Earl Sinks, and famously covered by the Bobby Fuller Four. Buddy Holly first wrote the song in 1954. It was not until 1958 that it was recorded, as an Everly Brothers demo, which was not released until 1964 on the posthumous ''Showcase'' LP. The first public release of "Love's Made a Fool of You", however, was by the Crickets, headed by Sonny Curtis in 1959. It was released as a single from ''In Style with the Crickets'', and stayed on the UK Singles Chart for two weeks, peaking at number 26. The Crickets' version, without Holly, was accidentally included on the 1972 compilation album ''Buddy Holly: A Rock and Roll Collection''; the same mistake was made on 1997's ''The Very Best of Buddy Holly''. Castle Communications, also known as Castle Music, was a British independent record label and home video distributor founded in 1983 by Terry Shand, Cliff Dane, and Jon Beecher.
