Short Track Speed Skating At The 2018 Winter Olympics – Men's 1000 Metres
The men's 1000 metres in short track speed skating at the 2018 Winter Olympics took place on 13 and 17 February 2018 at the Gangneung Ice Arena in Gangneung, South Korea. Samuel Girard won gold, John-Henry Krueger took the silver medal, and Seo Yi-ra won bronze. For all of them, this was their first Olympic medal. Charles Hamelin set an Olympic record in the heats but was disqualified in semifinals. Gangneung Ice Arena
Gangneung Ice Arena ( ko, 강릉 아이스 아레나) is an indoor ice arena, built for the 2018 Winter Olympics. It is located in the coastal city of Gangneung. It was the venue for two sports: figure skating and short track speed skating. The seating capacity is 12,000. Lee Jung-su (; ; born November 30, 1989) is a South Korean short track speed skater. He is a two-time Olympic Champion from 2010 Winter Olympics. Lee won one distances and became second overall at the 2008 World Junior Championships in Bolzano. He won 2009-2010 Overall World Cup. At the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, Lee won two gold medal in the 1000m and 1500m events. Semion Andreyevich Elistratov (russian: Семён Андреевич Елистратов; alternatively spelled Semen or Semyon, born 3 May 1990) is a Russian short track speed skater. He is the 2014 Olympic champion in the 5000 m relay and a double bronze medalist in the 1500 m at the 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics. Career Elistratov competed at the 2010 Winter Olympics for Russia. In the 500 metres and 1000 metres, he placed third in his round one heat, failing to advance, and in the 1500 metres, he placed fourth, also failing to advance. Charle Cournoyer (born June 11, 1991) is a Canadian short track speed skater. He won an Olympic bronze medal in the 500 m at the 2014 Winter Olympics. Cournoyer was also part of the gold medal World Championship relay team at the 2013 ISU World Championships for Canada. Shaoang Liu (; ; born 13 March 1998) is a Hungarian-born Olympic gold medalist short track speed skater. He is the younger brother of teammate Shaolin Sándor Liu, and has won two golds and two bronzes represent Hungary at the Winter Olympics in 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics in short track speed skating.
