Shooting At The 2004 Summer Olympics – Men's 50 Metre Pistol
The men's ISSF 50 meter pistol competition at the 2004 Summer Olympics was held on 17 August at the Markópoulo Olympic Shooting Centre near Athens, Greece. There were 42 competitors from 31 nations. Russia's Mikhail Nestruyev, after winning air pistol silver medal, took gold in the event with a total of 663.3, just two points adrift of South Korea's Jin Jong-oh, who left only with the silver on 661.5. Meanwhile, North Korean shooter Kim Jong-su fired a total of 657.7 points to steadily round out the podium with a bronze. Nestruyev's gold was Russia's second victory in the event. Both South Korea and North Korea earned their first medals in the free pistol. Background This was the 21st appearance of the ISSF 50 meter pistol event. The Markopoulo Olympic Shooting Centre was the site of the shooting events at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. The venue is located in Markópoulo, on the outskirts of the eastern suburbs of Athens. It has a seating capacity of 4,000, though a public capacity of only 2,330 for the Olympics. The venue was completed in March, 2004 and officially opened on August 2, 2004, shortly before the beginning of the Olympics. Morini Competition Arm S.A. is a Swiss manufacturer of target pistols aimed at ISSF shooting events as governed by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF, formerly UIT) and competed in at the Olympics. The company was formed in 1973 in Italy as a maker of anatomical grips for target pistols and still supply these grips to many other companies in addition to producing competition arms themselves. Vladimir Issachenko
Vladimir Nikolayevich Issachenko ( kz, Владимир Николаевич Исаченко; born December 27, 1982, in Temirtau) is a Kazakh sport shooter. He finished sixth in free pistol shooting at the 2004 Summer Olympics, and eventually won a bronze medal in the standard pistol at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar. Having pursued the sport since the age of eleven, Issachenko trained as a member of the shooting team for Dynamo Sport Club in Almaty under his personal coach and two-time Olympic bronze medalist Vladimir Vokhmyanin. Issachenko qualified for the Kazakh squad in pistol shooting at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, by having achieved a minimum qualifying score of 560 and securing a berth with a silver-medal effort in free pistol from the Asian Championships in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Isidro Lorenzo
Isidro Lorenzo González (born 8 March 1958 in Villadepera, Zamora) is a Spanish sport shooter. He was selected to compete for Spain as a 46-year-old at the 2004 Summer Olympics, and eventually won a bronze medal in free pistol shooting at the 2006 ISSF World Cup meet in Guangzhou, China. Lorenzo also trains under head coach Cezary Staniszewski for twelve years as a full-fledged member of the Spanish pistol shooting team. Lorenzo qualified for the Spanish team, as one of the oldest athletes (aged 46), in pistol shooting at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. He managed to get a minimum qualifying score of 560 to gain an Olympic quota place for Spain in the free pistol, following his outside-final finish at the ISSF World Cup meet in Zagreb, Croatia one year earlier.
