Shooting Stars is a television drama series spun off from the Singapore Idol singing competition in 2005, starring some of the top idols that year. The cast includes Taufik Batisah, Sylvester Sim, Olinda Cho, Daphne Khoo, Jeassea K. Thyidor, Alfarahizah Awangnit, David Wu, Brendon Lim, and Maylene Loo. The show premiered on August 9, 2005 and ended on October 11, 2005. Character bio Taufik Batisah plays a pizza delivery boy who struggles to balance the realities of his life with his dreams of singing. With an overly pragmatic girlfriend who expects an idealistic future together without understanding his love for music, he envies and views well-heeled best friend Aaron as having a great life without realising how controlled Aaron’s life is. Singapore Idol
''Singapore Idol'' is a reality television singing competition created by Simon Fuller and produced by MediaCorp Studios and FremantleMedia Operations BV. It began airing on MediaCorp Channel 5 on 9 August 2004, as an addition to the Idol franchise based on the UK show Pop Idol, and became one of the most popular shows in the history of Singaporean television. The concept of the series is to find new solo recording artists where the winner is determined by the viewers. Through telephone and SMS text voting, viewers have chosen as winners Taufik Batisah, Hady Mirza and Sezairi Sezali. The series employs a panel of judges who critique the contestants' performances. The original four judges during season 1 were singer/songwriter Dick Lee, Florence Lian, record producer Ken Lim and singer Douglas Oliverio. Taufik Batisah
Muhammad Taufik bin Batisah ( Jawi: محمد تيوفيك بن بتيسه; born 10 December 1981) is a Singaporean singer-songwriter best known for winning the first season of the reality TV series ''Singapore Idol''. Early life and education Taufik was born to a Malay family of both Indian and Buginese descent. His parents divorced when he was 13 years old. He attended Boon Lay Primary School, Jurong Secondary School before graduating from Singapore Polytechnic. Music career Taufik first started out as a singer in a local group called Bonafide, playing a mixture of hip hop and R&B with fellow rapper, Mark Subramaniam whose stage name is Mark Bonafide. Sylvester Sim
Sylvester Sim (; born January 19, 1983) is a Singaporean singer. Background Sim contested in the first ''Singapore Idol'' talent contest in 2004 was placed second place behind Taufik Batisah. He is also known as Sly. He used to be part of the J-rock band L'zefier. Sim v Lim (scheduled muay thai fight) On 31 July 2017, it was announced that Sim will be fighting prominent local celebrity Steven Lim in a muay thai "celebrity bout". The fight was supposed to be held on 23 September 2017 at the inaugural Asia Fighting Championship event in Singapore. Olinda Cho
Olinda Cho Yu Yen (; born 24 May 1980) is a Singaporean singer, actress and entrepreneur. Professional background Cho emerged as the second runner-up of the first season of ''Singapore Idol'' in 2004, behind Sylvester Sim and Taufik Batisah. Cho released her debut album, ''Rewind'', in October 2007. She also rearranged songs including the Singapore national anthem, Majulah Singapura, which was broadcast for Starhub's national day commercial, Majulah Moms. In September 2013, Cho started a modelling agency, NU Models, with Sheila Sim. In 2016, Cho participated in the Singaporean audition for the first season of ''Sing! Daphne Khoo
Daphne Khoo (born 22 January 1987) is a Singaporean singer. She was a contestant in the first season of Singapore Idol, finishing up in fourth place (third runner up) during ''Asian Songs'' week. She was also host of Idol-on-Demand, an online programme for ''Singapore Idol''. She was video-featured on Singapore youth TV station CTV. She was also one of the contestants in the television show ''The Dance Floor'' in the group Snaap! Early life Khoo was born in Perth, Australia, and moved to Singapore when she was eight, where she lived with her family. She has an older and a younger sister. Maylene and the Sons of Disaster is an American heavy metal band from Birmingham, Alabama. The group were founded in 2004, shortly after vocalist Dallas Taylor's departure from Underoath. In 2005, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster signed to Mono Vs Stereo and released their self-titled debut album. James Katsuyuki Taenaka (妙中克之 ''Taenaka Katsuyuki''; born November 27, 1964), better known as Jimmy T, is an American film and television actor. Nathaniel Ho
Nathaniel "Nat" Ho (, born 23 August 1984) is a Singaporean actor and singer. Career Ho was originally one of the Top 30 contestants in the inaugural season of Singapore Idol in 2004. He was also awarded the 'Most Promising Artiste' in 2004, by the Singapore Armed Forces Music and Drama Company. One of his first acting roles was in the Channel 5 drama '' Shooting Stars''. Following that, Nat was given the lead role in a local feature film, ''Smell of Rain''.
